One Goal Friday: September 24, 2010

Can you smell it? Apple pie, earthy and crispy leaves, cinnamon candles--those are what I smell this week. Mm-mm. What a wonderful time of the year!

It's Friday! Time to set and review one goal.

My goal last week was to finish choreographing our school's cheerleading dance routine. I did it, and it was fun! There are a few kinks to work out once we have the squad together, but the majority of the routine is finished.

Here are your goals.
Tabitha: Rewrite first two chapters of memoir
CJ: Keep working on Letter projects
Karen L: Continue progress on projects
Wendy: Write synopsis of finished book, plot and synopsis new book, and plot and outline another (!)
Joanne: Return to blogging
Paul: Finish first draft and run marathon (congrats on the marathon!)
Susan M: Continue getting organized
Jen: Send the Guideposts article and work on yard
Amy: Exercise every day
Susan JR: Work on manuscript

Sharon: Blog and be a homemaker (so glad your house will be finished!)

How did you do? It's so refreshing for me to review your goals each week. I love what you're accomplishing!

My goal this week is to organize my brainstorming notes for my next novel, and begin typing up the pre-plotting worksheets.

What about you? What one goal will enhance your life this week?

Please leave your goal in the comment section. Newcomers are welcome to participate, and don't worry if you can't stop by every Friday--my blog's goal isn't to add stress but to be a place of support.

Have a splendid weekend!

One Goal Friday: September 17, 2010

Didn't make it the ACFW Conference this year? Well, stop here for a while. We're having virtual ice cream and setting a goal for the next week.

Two of my fabulous critique partners are at the conference, and I get all jittery and excited thinking they will be pitching their projects, meeting each other and our friends for the first time, and leaving their families for a few days of much needed writer time. Good luck, girls!!

My other critique partner and I are home--on opposite ends of the country--sighing and wishing we were at conference too. Maybe next year?

So if you aren't at conference and a tiny piece of you wishes you were, pull up a spoon and pick a flavor. I'm embibing in Jamocha Almond Fudge. Mmm...

Also, welcome to the new goal setters. I'm very glad you joined the Friday fun, and I look forward to learning more about you.

My goal last week was to add another 8000 words to my novel. I am set to hit that goal this afternoon. Woo-hoo!

Here are your goals.

How did you do? It always energizes me to read your goals. I hope you met them!

My goal for this week is to finish choreographing a dance routine for our school's cheerleading squad. Yes, I busted out some 80's moves, checked YouTube for current dance sequences, and realized it's been a while since I've danced. I hope the girls like it. It's been so much fun!

What about you? What one goal will enhance your life this week?

Please leave your goal in the comment section. Newcomers are welcome to participate, and don't worry if you can't stop by every Friday--my blog's goal isn't to add stress but to be a place of support.

One Goal Friday: September 10, 2010

How was your week? Did the weather surprise you? And who else is thrilled it's Friday?

It turned cooler with high winds, but the sun stayed out all week, so I'm not complaining.

It's time to set one goal for the week!

My goal for the week was to figure out an exercise routine that fit into my new schedule. So far, so good. I'm walking the dog for fifteen minutes at lunch, and moving for an additional fifteen minutes each evening. It's nice to know what I'm doing and not have any reason to feel guilty. Fifteen minutes twice a day is easy for me to achieve.

Here are your goals.
Terri: Loosen up with writing and not take everything to heart
Em: Enjoy life
Paul: Be more aware of amazing people in life
Lynn: Start writing blog again
Erica: Finish content edits
Patti: Get rid of sore throat (I'm sorry, hope you feel better!)
Tyrean: Enjoy the final weekend before school and write daily
Susan JR: Resume work on novel three
Katie: Get solid handle on verbal pitch
Tamika: Finish revising chapter five
Maria: Get girl settled in college then write, write, write (congrats!)
CJ: Get back on schedule
Robyn: Write every day
Nancy: Start getting organized
Sharon: Prepare for the SCBWI conference
Quiet Spirit: Study a script and get another refined for ministry group

How did you do? I know many blogger friends are preparing to attend the ACFW conference, and I'm sending those attending, energy to prepare and calmness to enjoy. Have fun! Everyone else, you can hang out with me and cheer our friends on!

My new goal for the week is to add 8,000 words to my new novel.

What about you? What one goal will enhance your life this week?

Please leave your goal in the comment section. Newcomers are welcome to participate, and don't worry if you can't stop by every Friday--my blog's goal isn't to add stress but to be a place of support.

Have a terrific weekend!

One Goal Friday: September 3, 2010

Happy Friday! A holiday weekend and the start of college football? Bring on the pizza! Oh, and I started writing my new book. For me, there's nothing like the beginning of fall.

On the down side, the unbearable heat and humidity this week did not feel very fall-like. I'm getting up about an hour earlier than before, and with more on my plate, my exercising routine has begun to slip.

It's Friday! Time to review and set one goal!

My goal last week was to make a new schedule and set goals for the next two months. I'm relieved to say I met this goal. It's reassuring to know what I have to do each day.

Here are your goals.
CJ: Touch up outer door and paint living room door
Kelly: Make outline
Diane: Pray about possibly going back to work
Wendy: Edit more of both novels
Em: Unclutter everything!
Lynn: Pick out photos for Mya's book and call software expert
Heather: Go through five chapters of edits
Julie J: Start preparing for ACFW Conference

Love these!! I thought of all of you often this week. I hope you were able to accomplish what you set out to do. You inspire me!

My goal for the upcoming week is to figure out a new exercise routine that fits in my schedule and isn't ridiculous. You know, like a few fifteen minute spurts each day.

What about you? What one goal will enhance your life this week?

Please leave your goal in the comment section. Newcomers are welcome to participate, and don't worry if you can't stop by every Friday--my blog's goal isn't to add stress but to be a place of support.

Have a fantastic weekend!

One Goal Friday: August 27, 2010

And so ends the final week of summer vacation. We had beautiful weather, sports' camps, and a few last minute back-to-school shopping trips. My parents came to visit (thanks Mom and Dad!), and I finally went through last year's school papers.

Am I ready for Monday?
Yes.
Yes, I am. Monday marks the beginning of my serious writing time, and I long for uninterrupted hours of getting lost in my new novel.

It's Friday! Time to set one goal for the week.

My goal last week was to finish the scene outline. Did I meet it? Not even close. Didn't even attempt it. But a few new developments with my latest book got pushed through instead, so I feel good.

Terri: No meltdowns over feedback on book
Wendy: Spend quality time with girls

Nancy: Push on with more books squirrelled away
Amber J: Organize everything from writing, photography, school, to coaching soccer
Angie: Work on WIP and read submissions for Rose & Thorn Journal

Whew!! This week got away from me, but I hope it didn't get away from you. How did you do? These goals make me happy because I can relate to every one of them. I hope you all had a great week.

My goal for this week? Make a new schedule, set goals for the next two months, and survive the first week of school.

What about you? What one goal will enhance your life this week?

One Goal Friday: August 20, 2010

Shopping for school clothes requires the skills of a bounty hunter.

Multiple sources assail you at once:
  • The kids, of course, because the things they want to wear and the things you want to buy rarely coincide.
  • The stores are perfectly designed to hypnotize you with their bright lights, narrow aisles, and display after display of different items. When you're woozy from neon, you'll conveniently forget you already purchased two shirts similar to the one in your child's hand.
  • Other shoppers jostle, small children cry, and salesclerks do everything in their power to get you to sign up for yet another credit card.
  • If you shop at a mall, you'll have to shimmy around store kiosks and desperately try to avoid the lotion/perfume/pumice stone samples.
  • The aromas of Cinnabon will caress you, entice you, drag you to the line of fifteen people deep until you realize you'll need to take out a second mortgage just to enjoy one heavenly bun. Do you succumb? Yes. Refi-rates are good and you needed that icing.
Sorry, I went off on a tangent. Needless to say, school shopping was an exhausting experience, but I survived.

It's Friday! Time to set and review one goal!

My goal last week? Finish the scene outline for my new book and critique one manuscript for my critique partner. I finished the critique, but I did not finish the scene outline.

Here are your goals.

Tabitha: Map out revisions needed for book
Terri: Write 5000 words
Wendy: Figure out revisions for Partridge
Patti: Get house ready for Chinese exchange students
Wendy: Edit as much as possible and edit well
Kelly: Use kids' camp time productively
CJ: Have fun with the class of 11-13 year-old girls
Keli: Make good progress on revisions
Abby: Enjoy nature--oceans and mountains
Nancy: Go further in books squirrelled away
Karen: Work on and finish lesson plans for online writing class
Ralene: Ease into routine to prepare for homeschooling
Kelly: Not let fear stand in way of what to write
Katie: Keep 5-6am writing time sacred (how do you do it??)
Quiet Spirit: Study six scripture passages and write samples to send to two devotionals
Paul: Stay focused
Em: Stay focused
Maria S: Decide which colleges to apply for

How did you do? Are you feeling any urgency now that summer is almost over? I am. My productive time starts in September, and while I've loved spending so much delicious time with my kids these months, I'm ready to kick into high gear again.

My goal this week is to finish that scene outline. Enough already!

What about you? What one goal will enhance your life this week?

Please leave your goal in the comment section. Newcomers are welcome to participate, and don't worry if you can't stop by every Friday--my blog's goal isn't to add stress but to be a place of support.

One Goal Friday: August 13, 2010

Earlier in the week, my family and I went tent camping for five days on the shores of Lake Michigan. The white sand beaches made me want to park my beach chair permanently, but this gal can only take sleeping in a tent in small doses.

The main problem with tent camping is the lack of a sound barrier. Two nights in a row, I gritted my teeth through our neighbor's laugh-and-chat fest until 4:30AM. Finally, I realized tissues have more than one use. I rolled them up and shoved them in my ears. Sure, some sound still came through, but I was able to sleep--that is until morning arrived and small children yelled across six campsites. I'm always happy to see kids having a good time. If they could just have a good time a little later in the day...

It's Friday! Time to set and review our goal.

My goal last week was to slow down and enjoy nature. Vacation made that possible. Goal accomplished!

Here are your goals:
Jeanette: Finish a guest blog article on humor writing
CJ: Look into upgrading from Vista to 7
Ralene: Start a routine to help ease into homeschooling
Paul: Yoga and stretching

Julie: Write every day
Robyn: Stay close to God, query agents, prepare for homeschool and co-op
Nancy: Start new schedule with energy and joy
Diane J: Come up with contest entry, write it and revise, work on novel
Erin: Get along with hubby :)

How did you do? I feel like a big old slacker after a week off. I'm ready for some meaty goals like yours.

My goal this week? Finish my plot outline for my new book and read one of my critique partner's manuscripts.

What about you? What one goal will enhance your life this week?

Please leave your goal in the comment section. Newcomers are welcome to participate, and don't worry if you can't stop by every Friday--my blog's goal isn't to add stress but to be a place of support.

One Goal Friday: August 6, 2010

The good news? Summer hasn't quit yet. The bad news? It's ending soon. But hey, I love watching college football and even some NFL, so at least I have something to look forward to.

I forced myself to resume the jogging regimen. After only a week off, the exercise was much easier than I expected, and it--I can't believe I'm admitting this--felt great.

It's Friday! Time to set and review our goals.

Last week, my goal was to attend the county fair. I met that goal and enjoyed french fries and funnel cake on top of it. Score! We lingered in the bunny barn, ran into our friends throughout the fair, and even got to pet a five-hour-old calf. (Thanks, Dee!)

Here are your goals.

Wendy: Complete revisions on first 50 pages of Partridge
Heather: Come up with blogging plan, check out research books, and read The Help
Jessica: Think of a goal (after the RWA fun, I'm guessing you had no trouble!)
Jen: Write a humor column for the paper
Diane: Get on the treadmill (and hack away at the to-be-read pile)
Erica: Walk three times (Yay! You finished your ms!)
Paul: Yoga and stretching three days
Patti: Finish The Rhythm of Secrets, teach class, prepare lesson, and plan conference
Sherrinda: Survive first week back to work (No cranky pants!)
Cindy: Prepare for ACFW conference (woo-hoo!)
Loree H: Get three more chapters revised (Praying for Hannah. Any improvement?)
Beth: Survive hubby going back to work and write 10k words
Jackee: Reorganize writing space and research an article
CJ: Refrain from destroying slow computer
Jennifer: Jogging and spinning (you're my hero)
Katie: Get to pg. 150 revising

So, how did you do? These are great goals! I hope you all had fun meeting them.

My goal for this week is to soak in nature, be contemplative, nourish my silly side, and enjoy a very, very slow pace.

What about you? What one goal would enhance your life this week?

Please leave your goal in the comment section. Newcomers are welcome to participate, and don't worry if you can't stop by every Friday--my blog's goal isn't to add stress but to be a place of support.

I will be offline until August 11. I love to read your goals and comments, so please leave one. Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Friday, July 30, 2010

One Goal Friday: July 30, 2010

July's almost over? Already? I'm convinced summer days speed by faster than winter ones.

Today is my dad's birthday! Happy Birthday Dad!

So the jogging didn't go well last week. I really slacked off. I think it's time to add some variety to the workouts because I'm getting bored, and when I get bored, I quit.

It's Friday! Time to review and set our goals.

Last week, my goal was to do the final read through of my book and start querying it. Yes, I met that goal. It feels so good.

Here are your goals.
Jessica: Work on the new WIP
Katie: Write revision notes and work on one major problem
Lynn: Be social while on vacay and finish Wild at Heart to review

How did you do? Is the end of July messing with you? Or are you plowing ahead and getting things done?

So this week, my goal is to hit the county fair one day and splurge on french fries. Yummy! The rabbit barn is my favorite, and I can't wait to check it out.

What about you? What one goal would enhance your life this week?

Please leave your goal in the comment section. Newcomers are welcome to participate, and don't worry if you can't stop by every Friday--my blog's goal isn't to add stress but to be a place of support.

Friday, July 23, 2010

One Goal Friday: July 23, 2010

How are you? What have you been up to?

That's how almost every phone call of mine begins, and since we're all friends here (if you're new, you soon will be friends here too!), I'll start today's blog out the same.

The kids and I strolled downtown Ann Arbor and on the University of Michigan campus this week for the annual Ann Arbor Art Fair. It's huge! The city streets and campus brim with booths featuring artists from all over the world. Live music, free art projects for kids and adults, a trolley, and tons of delicious food booths round out the fair. I love that the city plans so well for the event. Visitors can park at the mall or Pioneer High School and pay a small fee to ride a bus to the venue. The art fair continues until Saturday, so if you're in the area, go check it out!

It's Friday! Time to set and review our goal.
My goal last week was to finish researching my new book and create the scene outline. Well, that goal will have to wait, because my critique partners are super fast! I spent the week tweaking my (almost) finished book based on their comments.

Here are your goals:
Terri: Read through manuscript to see what's still needed
Jessica: Continue sending queries and polishing ms (Good luck!! Fingers crossed for many requests!!)

Lynn: Tweet twice a day
Tamika: Dive back into ms
Cindy: Write 10k, get up early to exercise, and clean house
Kelly F: 1k/1hr
Erica: Write 10k
Patti: Keep correcting The Rhythm of Secrets, finish teacher crits for memoir class
Quiet Spirit: Write on series of skits with theme of God speaking to us

One Goal Friday: July 16, 2010

What a great week! We wrapped up our summer sports, spent time with dear friends, and were blessed with long, sunny days. I worked a new arc into the book I'm polishing up, and I started researching my new book.

The jogging regimen I started in May? Still hanging in there. I can run longer distances now, but I still have to force myself to get moving.

My goal last week was to organize my writing files. Mission accomplished! And I had a fun time shopping for supplies. I could spend a fortune in any office supply store.

Here are your goals from last week:

Wendy: Polish Noble and go full guns with Partridge
Tabitha: Submit short pieces to magazines
CJ: Dream goal--to hire housekeeper and work on art all day (*sigh* wouldn't that be wonderful?)

Friday, July 9, 2010

One Goal Friday: July 9, 2010

Hot and humid, this week's been a scorcher. When it's too hot to be outside, we find fun things to do indoors. This week, we played with clay at our local art museum. I found rolling the brown clay in my palm to be relaxing and oddly freeing. A scene for my new book popped in my head as I formed a snail.

It's Friday, time to review and set one goal. Last week, my goal was to find quiet time just for me. Although I had to snatch the time in small increments here and there, I did manage to accomplish it.

Here are your goals:

Diane: Make the most of each day with kids and summer vacation
CJ: Get health records organized for the Young One's college

Last week, my goal was to enter in all revisions and send the book to my critique partners. No, I didn't meet my goal. Came close, though. I still have to enter a few chapters' revisions. I was blessed with opportunities to see family, and I don't always get those moments during the school year.

Here are your goals:
Katie: Add another 12k to ms
CJ: Get windshield repaired for inspection
Wendy: Find time to edit and revise while on vacation
Kelly F: Keep eyes open for everything

One Goal Friday: June 25, 2010

Percolating. As in the drip, drip, drip of coffee brewing. It's steamy, smells great, and brings an excited anticipation of a rich experience to come. That's what my week was like. It was busy and productive in an almost-ready-but-not-quite way.

**Brief pause in the regular Friday goals here--please include Quiet Spirit in your prayers as she mourns the loss of her dear sister-in-law. Quiet Spirit writes beautiful devotions at her blog, Following My King, and I'm sure she would appreciate a kind comment if you would like to reach out to her. **

Last week my goal was to revise ten chapters of my final round of revisions based on critique advice. I exceeded that goal and managed to mark up the entire book. Now it's a matter of entering the changes.

Here are your goals from last week.
Tabitha: Start a new project
Jennifer S: Write 20 pages
Wendy: Make big decisions
Lynn: Write good piece on inspiration

Cindy: Make it to 40K

Patti: Get two additional blockbuster chapters to agent

Sherrinda: Edit one chapter a day
Katie: Add another 12k to ms
Maria: To not get fired and to celebrate Father's Day with Dad (Congrats on the promotion!)
Sharon: Enjoy the sun and write when the mood strikes

I hope you all had a fun time meeting your goals. I know I did!

This week my goal is to finalize all revisions and send the book to my critique partners. And as a side-note, I am also pre-plotting my next book, which is a whole lot of fun for me!

What one goal will enhance your life this week?

Please leave your goal in the comment section. Newcomers are welcome to participate, and don't worry if you can't stop by every Friday--my blog's goal isn't to add stress but to be a place of support.

One Goal Friday: June 18, 2010

Sixteen years ago, I woke up and scraped Lee Press-On Nails off of my fingers for over an hour. What possessed me to attempt fake nails the day of my wedding, I'll never know. Later, I donned an elaborate gown with puffy sleeves, gobs of lace, and a stunning train. I begged my mom to stop and get McDonald's fries on the way to the wedding (she didn't). Then, out of happiness, I bawled like a baby all the way up the aisle, and my legs visibly trembled as we said our vows.

I didn't have a single doubt that I was marrying the right man. The perfect man for me. My hero.

We were among the last to leave our reception--it was just that fun! I wish I had a scanner to post one of our wedding pictures. We looked so young! Well, we were so young.

Some things haven't changed. I still regularly enjoy McDonald's fries, and I still don't have a single doubt I married the right man. The perfect man for me. My hero.

So...last week my goal was to enjoy my anniversary. I can safely say I'm accomplishing that!

Here are your goals:

Kelly: Figure out work situation

My new goal is to spend a few wonderful (and children-free) days with my darling husband! It's our anniversary on June 18, and I want him to know how much I love him. Sixteen years! Can you believe it? I was a child bride...okay, maybe not...have a fabulous weekend!

One Goal Friday: June 4, 2010

Today is the last day of school, which means my kids will whip their backpacks onto our living room floor before whooping around the house like rabid wild dogs. I will yell at them to put the backpacks and everything in them away, because if I don't, the scuffed up packs will sit like excess furniture until July.

Do you know what no school means? It means drinking coffee on our porch--in my pajamas. It means a few quiet hours each morning for me to write as my kids snooze. It means a general relaxation blankets our normally busy household. At least until mid-August. At that point, I yearn for full days to write in peace, for the freedom to meet my writer friends for coffee, for separation of my dear children. But for now, I'll enjoy.

It's Friday! Time to set one goal for the upcoming week. It can be related to work, fun, family--anything--just as long as it enhances your life.

Last week, my goal was to be grateful for what I have each day. I had no problem with that goal. All I have to do is look around me and see my terrific husband, my sweet kids, my supportive extended family, and all of the material blessings showered on me. I am grateful, extremely so.

Here are your goals.
Katie: Finish outlining to be ready to write by Friday
Diane: Get on that treadmill
Wendy: Nail the ending
Jessica: Go running twice and figure out how to lengthen category novel to single title
CJ: Settle on date for party and design the inside of invitation
Kelly: Write a detailed outline
Jody: Finish up the substantive edits
Lynn: Complete chapter one of The Artist's Way by Julie Cameron and write about it.
Regina: Finish the website in progress and finish small writing project
Keli: Another 5K words
Jennifer S: Do some research and write a speech for church talk
Cindy: Enjoy the weekend (Happy Birthday!!) and aim for 16K words
Julie: 3 hours of editing
Karen L: Spend more time in the Word
Hannah: Get graduation announcements in the mail
Erica: Enjoy family and company who are visiting
T.Anne: Complete edits and move on
Jen: Lose 1 pound, continue working on index, and start reading No Greater Love by Kathi Macias
Susan JR: Study deep POV, setting, and motivation before making changes
Maria Sondule: Have a good first day of work (Congrats on the new job!)
Tyrean: Start a 365 Days of Blessings at blog, aimed to keep gratitude in the atitude (Great idea!)

As always, these goals amaze me. I hope you all were able to make progress!

My new goal. Hmm... Polish my query and synopsis so I can start querying my latest book, For Barter or for Worse. Yeah, I gagged a little at the thought. But, it has to be done. :)

What one goal will you set this week?

One Goal Friday: May 21, 2010

How was your week? My routine went away this week, and I didn't mind waving bye-bye to it. It felt good to fix a problem chapter and to let the plot for my new novel burrow around in the tunnels of my brain.

I'm still jogging. But we made brownies this week. And blueberry streusel coffee cake. That's not counterproductive, is it? I didn't think so.

It's time to set one goal for the upcoming week. It can be related to work, family, fun, or anything at all, as long as it will enhance your life.

My goal last week? Based on my critique partner's suggestions, to rework the first chapter of the book I just revised. Mission accomplished!

Here are your goals:

Heather S: Rework end of story, about 2000 words a day

Terri: Rework an old romance to send to publisher

Jennifer S: Put Disney trip photos in album
T.Anne: Get through edits and start working on new WIP

Sharon: Query two publishing houses and write two chapters on WIP

My new goal for the week is to finish reading Donald Maass's Fire in Fiction. A gem!

What one goal will you set this week?

Please leave your goal in the comments section. If you are new to my blog, I'd love to read your goal too, but if you aren't comfortable, feel free to lurk!

One Goal Friday: May 14, 2010

We made it to another Friday! Sometimes that fact amazes me. Time is a pretty fascinating concept. How many Fridays have we enjoyed throughout our life?

Now some of you may be feeling a little blue today. The 2010 Genesis Contest (through ACFW) finalists were announced yesterday. I only recognized one name--Jeannie Campbell.(Congratulations Jeannie!!) So I know many of you feel the sting of disappointment. On a turning-lemons-into-lemonade note, it gave me a terrific excuse to make cupcake batter. Life becomes better when I'm munching on baked goods.

Time to set one goal for the week! It can be related to work, family, fun or anything at all.

My goal last week was to enjoy a few hours of alone-time in a park or at a museum. I did not meet this goal for a variety of reasons, including chaperoning a field trip, my van getting repaired from last week's accident, and a nasty migraine yesterday. Excuses, excuses, I know!

Here are your goals from last week.
Tabitha: Have fun!
Heather: Meet the previous week's goal
Wendy: Read the Bible
Lynn: Have an artist date to colour the sky
Diane: Bless five mothers
Jaime: Finish revising first 1/4 of ms and lose three pounds
Tyrean: Start new story with 5,000 words
Maria: Clean the house
Keli: Enjoy daughter's visit
Cindy: Scrapbook, critique (thank you!), and research
Erica: Finish galley proofs on ms
Julie J: 1,000 words a day
CJ: Move the "dorm room" from the living room
Paul: Three yoga sessions
Kelly: Three yoga sessions (congrats on your fast run!)
Katie: Plot out seven scenes
Nancy: Reevaluate a few things
Beth: Write 5,000 words
Patti: Pack for China!
Shannon: Finish revisions
Empi: Complete current chapter, plot next novel, stop and smell the roses
Quiet Spirit: Continue getting house in order
Maria S: Be friend with ex (good luck with that!)

How'd did you do?

My new goal? Rework chapter one based on critique partner's suggestions.

Have a fantastic weekend!
