5 Easy Questions with Lindsay Harrel!

Every Wednesday, I ask a writer the same five easy questions. In an effort to support and promote fellow wordsmiths, I feature authors who write a variety of genres, from sweet inspirational to mainstream thrillers. The writers themselves may be aspiring, published, or best-selling--all have made an impact on my life.

Thank you for joining me in welcoming…Lindsay Harrel!!

Lindsay and I met through blogging friends and I’m so glad we did! She’s one of those people who is a little bit of everything—funny, kind, humble, talented—I can’t wait to meet her in person. (And I actually get to this fall at the ACFW National Conference!!) I’m excited to have her here today.

Let’s get to it!

1. Beverage of choice?

Ice water. In Phoenix, it's a must, and I drink it by the boatload. I recently got this hot pink insulated cup (yeah, baby!) and refill it like 10 times a day at work. And yes, that means I also have to make frequent trips past the front desk guy and to the restroom. *Embarrassing!*

2. Any pets?

Oh yeah, I love having pets...there's nothing quite like the companionship they offer. We have a golden retriever puppy (Chloe) who will be a year in July. We're planning to get another golden this fall...so excited (and so exhausted thinking about it)!

3. Dream vacation?

Well, my husband and I have always wanted to go to Europe. We've both been separately (him in high school and me in college), but we want to go together. We're hoping to go next year if we can swing it with time off of work, finances, etc. Our top spots to hit will be London, Paris, and Rome. I just love the history that's there...and all those beautiful churches! Awe-inspiring, for sure.

4. What are you listening to right now?

Nothing. I love music but I work best in silence. But it's a cozy silence right now. We just got back from a hike and the dog is lying on the tile panting, dinner's in the oven cooking, and I've got my feet up on the coffee table relaxing. So yep, a nice silence for sure.

5. What's for dinner?

Mini pizzas--I know, don't we sound like we're twelve? Ha. But they're soooo easy. I just take whole wheat sandwich thins and split them, put a little dollop of pizza sauce (you can make your own or buy a jar of it) on each piece, sprinkled with low-fat mozzarella cheese, and top with turkey pepperoni. Then I just bake them for 12-15 minutes. Voila! Easy, somewhat "healthy" pizza. At least, that's what I tell myself!
***
Lindsay, I drink tons of water too, so I feel your pain. But I recently read that drinking lots of water helps prevent migraine symptoms, not to mention makes us look younger. It's worth it. And you’re getting a puppy? Golden puppies are SO cute! And rambunctious…good luck with that! I haven’t been to Europe, but London and Rome are my two top cities to visit. I’d also love to drive around Britain’s countryside. Mm, mm, that would be nice.

Silence is always good. I’m enjoying some of that myself right now. Oh, and I never thought to use sandwich thins as pizza crust. We make English Muffin pizzas (yes, we’re twelve too!), and they’re always a hit! Thanks so much for being my guest!

Due to our upcoming move, I'm suspending the 5 Easy Questions series until this fall. Instead, I will share my moving adventures on Wednesdays. Since we're remodeling our new house (and living in it for part of the process), I'm sure there will be much to share!

Does your summer schedule change? Or do you maintain the same schedule year-round?
We're on summer vacation here, so I spend my mornings writing and sipping coffee. It's a nice break from the hectic school year!
Enjoy your Wednesday!

5 Easy Questions with Lisa Jordan!

Thank you for joining me in welcoming…Lisa Jordan!!

Lisa is one of those writers I can’t wait to meet in person! We met online through mutual friends, and I’m drawn to her down-to-earth, kind spirit. Lisa is a super busy mom, small business owner, and published author. Her debut novel, Lakeside Reunion, released last November through Harlequin Love Inspired and her next book, Lakeside Family, will hit shelves this August! I’m thrilled to have her here today!

Let’s get to it!

1. Beverage of choice?

Water with lemon, skim milk, or vanilla chai tea. Will I be kicked out of the club if I admit I love the smell of coffee, but hate the taste? And I'm not much of a pop (yes, I said pop--I'm a Yankee) drinker.

2. Any pets?

Two gold fish named Erma & Gert.

3. Dream vacation?

Any place with my family that includes sand, sun, & surf. One of our favorite vacation spots is Sanibel Island, Florida.

4. What are you listening to right now?

Heavenly Lullabies on Pandora--by day I'm an early childhood educator in my in-home childcare program (no, I'm not a babysitter)--and it's nap time while I answer these questions.

5. What's for dinner?

My son is home for about a week, and he's a culinary arts student, so when he's home he does the cooking. I'm not sure what's on the menu, but I do know it will be wonderful as he's a fabulous chef-in-training.

***

Lisa, you will NOT be kicked out of the club for not liking coffee. I never drank the stuff until a few years ago, and now I’m addicted. Funny, we say “pop” here too! Love the names of your goldfish. I kind of want to say Gert all the time now. :)

Sanibel Island sounds fabulous; we’ve never been there. If the vacation spot involves the beach, I’m always in! And I didn’t realize Pandora had a station to lull children to sleep. Love it! When your son is finished cooking your dinner, send him my way. Thanks so much for being my guest today.

Lisa Jordan ~

Married almost 23 years to her real-life hero, Lisa Jordan knows a thing or two about romance. She and her husband have two college-aged sons. When she isn't caring for her family or her Little Darlings in her in-home childcare program, Lisa writes contemporary romance novels for Love Inspired. Her debut novel, Lakeside Reunion, came out in November 2011. Her second novel, Lakeside Family, will be released in August 2012. In her free time (ha!), Lisa enjoys good books, romantic comedies, crafting with friends and feeding her NCIS addiction. You can visit her online at www.lisajordanbooks.com, connect with her on Facebook, and follow her on Twitter.

I tried a new recipe last night. It’s potato salad with bacon and a homemade blue cheese dressing. Delicious!

What new foods have you tried recently?

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

5 Easy Questions with Elana Johnson!

Thank you for joining me in welcoming…Elana Johnson!!

The first thing I thought when I started writing this introduction was doesn’t everyone know Elana Johnson? She’s such a generous, smart, and savvy writer. Along with her excellent blog, you may know Elana from her work with WriteOnCon, an online writer’s conference. She tirelessly shares her publishing knowledge in addition to writing dystopian YA novels. Last year, Elana’s debut novel, Possession, was released, and the sequel to it, Surrender, comes out on June 5!

Let’s get to it!

1. Beverage of choice?

Grape soda. I love the gas station Squirt mixed with the grape flavor blast.

2. Any pets?

Nope. I am terrified of all animals with more legs than I have, all snakes and fish, and most ducks and geese.

3. Dream vacation?

I love going to San Diego. I also want to travel to England and Australia.

4. What are you listening to right now?

Pandora, Maroon 5 station. Weezer is on right now.

5. What's for dinner?

We’re going out tonight! I don’t know where, but I don’t have to plan, cook, or clean, so I don’t care.

***

Ooo, grape soda. I used to live on grape Slurpees from 7-11, and I must say, bacon and Oreos are two of my fave foods also. Our family could survive quite well on bacon alone. I love your vacation choice of San Diego. What a fun place! I haven’t been there in years, and now I want to go. :)

I’m laughing at your terror of animals. I’m the opposite. I love animals, fish, and birds. Insects, however, terrify me! No thank you on any kind of creepy-crawly or slithery pet.

Don’t you love going out to eat? I’m with you. No planning, cooking, or cleaning rank high on my list. Thanks so much for being my guest, Elana!

SURRENDER: Forbidden love, intoxicating power, and the terror of control…

Raine has always been a good girl. She lives by the rules in Freedom. After all, they are her father’s rules: He’s the Director. It’s because of him that Raine is willing to use her talent—a power so dangerous, no one else is allowed to know about it. Not even her roommate, Vi.

All of that changes when Raine falls for Gunner. Raine’s got every reason in the world to stay away from Gunn, but she just can’t. Especially when she discovers his connection to Vi’s boyfriend, Zenn.

Raine has never known anyone as heavily brainwashed as Vi. Raine’s father expects her to spy on Vi and report back to him. But Raine is beginning to wonder what Vi knows that her father is so anxious to keep hidden, and what might happen if she helps Vi remember it. She’s even starting to suspect Vi’s secrets might involve Freedom’s newest prisoner, the rebel Jag Barque….

Intrigued? Check out the trailer for Surrender!

About Elana:

In Elana Johnson's world, Oreos and bacon would be the only food groups. Everyone would drive 10 over the speed limit, and winter would be eliminated as a season. As it is, she lives with her husband and two kids along the Wasatch Front in Utah, gets cited when she drives too fast and eats Oreos only on special occasions.

She maintains a personal writing blog and contributes to a debut YA science fiction/dystopian blog, both of which can be found through her website at elanajohnson.com. For more information about Elana’s books, head to her blog, like her on Facebook, and follow her on Twitter.

5 Easy Questions with Kelly Polark!

Thank you for joining me in welcoming…Kelly Polark!!

I found Kelly through a Twitter recommendation, and her hilarious blog lured me in. She’s a huge music fan and goes to concerts often--which I like since I can enjoy them vicariously. Lucky for us, she shares pictures too. Just this week, Kelly shared a snapshot of her with Chris Daughtry. Pretty cool!

Let’s get to it!

1. Beverage of choice?

Fountain Coca Cola from McDonald's. I'm addicted. Though I show restraint and have about 3-4 a week. I also love chocolate milk.

2. Any pets?

We have two dogs. One 15 year old blind miniature pinscher named Goofy and a 3 year old rescue dachshund/spaniel mix named Daisy. Daisy adores Goofy. And we adore them both.

3. Dream vacation?

I'm a homebody, so my favorite place to be is home. I enjoy going to the Wisconsin family cabins on both sides of the family, and my favorite tropical place is Atlantis at the Bahamas!

4. What are you listening to right now?

The bands I'm listening to the most right now are Papa Roach, New Medicine, and Bush. I also can’t stop listening to Neon Trees’ new single, “Everybody Talks.” I love SO many rock bands though, and many are on shuffle on my iPod.

5. What's for dinner?

Our evenings are hectic. I have three children all in activities so I am usually picking up two around 5pm then driving straight to a baseball game or track meet. So sandwiches or cheese roll ups in the car with fruit is our usual weekday dinner! Boring, but true.

***

Kelly, you’re not alone in your McDonald’s Coke addiction. There’s something in their formula that’s magical. I can’t get enough! Your puppies sound so cute, and I LOVE their names. Vacation--yum. Wisconsin is so pretty, and Atlantis speaks to my beach-loving soul. :)

I haven’t heard Neon Trees, so I am going to look them up. It’s fun finding new-to-me artists! Your evenings have me nodding. We just wrapped up track season, and baseball is going strong. We’ll be having many similar dinners until August. Thanks so much for being my guest today!

***

Kelly Polark writes picture books, children's poetry, and middle grade novels. She is an educator and married mother of three. Her publications include poetry, short stories, and word puzzles in Highlights Puzzlemania, Ladybug, Nature Friend and Stories for Children magazine. Her first picture book app will be published by Meegenius by summer of this year.

Besides her family, her passion is music. She loves rock concerts and finding out what her favorite musicians are reading. You can find out too at www.bookrecsthatrock.blogspot.com.

To learn more about Kelly, head to her blog and follow her on Twitter.

What song are you really tired of hearing on the radio? (For me, it's "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson.)

Have a fantastic Wednesday!!

5 Easy Questions with Beth K. Vogt!

Thank you for joining me in welcoming…Beth K. Vogt!!

I found Beth through the blogs of mutual friends, and when I saw the cover of her debut novel, Wish You Were Here, I had to have her on 5 Easy Questions! Her book looks right up my alley, and I’m happy she agreed to stop by!

Let’s get to it!

1. Beverage of choice?

Coke – fully leaded and with lots of ice. I could drink that all day long, but I don’t. Second favorite beverage: SOBE Lifewater. Yum! I stock my fridge with those so that I don’t drink Coke all day long.

2. Any pets?

We are down to only one dog, my daughter’s mini-dachshund, Twister. Earlier this spring, we lost our 90 pound lab, Midas, to cancer.  But here’s the advantage of being a writer: The heroine in my second novel has a dog and I endowed him with Midas’ never-met-a-person-he-didn’t-like personality. He also flunked all attempts at obedience training, which made life frustrating… I mean, interesting.

3. Dream vacation?

Venice. Me. My husband. And a gondola.

4. What are you listening to right now?

The rare silence of a quiet house when I am the only person awake. Ve-ery nice. If I was listening to music? My “Favorites” list on my iPod, which is a compilation of oldies, country, and praise and worship.  And, yes, I’d be singing along.

5. What's for dinner?

Reservations? Take out? Or more likely something my husband cooked on the grill accompanied with a salad and baked sweet potatoes.

***

Beth, I love Coke and Sobe Lifewater. I have Strawberry Dragonfruit in my fridge as we speak! I’m sorry about poor Midas. I’m sure he was a sweetheart. Twister and my mini-dachshund, Sophie, would get along great!

Your dream vacation sounds perfect, and I am a huge fan of silence. And now that you mention a salad and sweet potato…both are making me hungry! Thanks so much for being my guest!

Wish You Were Here:

Allison Denman is supposed to get married in five days, but everything is all wrong. The huge wedding. The frothy dress. And the groom.

Still, kissing the groom’s brother in an unguarded moment is decidedly not the right thing to do. How could she have made such a mistake? It seems Allison’s life is nothing but mistakes at this point. And pulling a “Runaway Bride” complete with stealing, er, borrowing her best friend’s car doesn’t seem to solve her problems.

Can Allison find her way out of this mess? Maybe she just needs to stop orchestrating everything. Allison prefers being the one in control, and giving it up is not going to be easy. But to find her way again, she will have to believe that God has a plan for her and find the strength to let Him lead.

Beth K. Vogt is a non-fiction author and editor who said she’d never write fiction. She’s the wife of an Air Force family physician (now in solo practice) who said she’d never marry a doctor—or anyone in the military. She’s a mom of four who said she’d never have kids. She’s discovered that God’s best often waits behind the doors marked “Never.”

Her contemporary romance novel, Wish You Were Here, debuts in May 2012 (Howard Books.) Beth also wrote a book on late-in-life motherhood, Baby Changes Everything: Embracing and Preparing for Motherhood After 35 (Revell 2007), and is an established magazine writer and former editor of Connections, the leadership magazine for MOPS International.

5 Easy Questions with Talli Roland!

Thank you for joining me in welcoming…Talli Roland!!

I met Talli through blogging. I smile every time I stop by her blog. Talli has a delicious sense of humor, and her warm personality always improves my day. I’m so happy to share Talli’s latest book news—Construct a Couple, the second book in the Serenity Holland series—is coming out next month! Yay!

Let’s get to it!

1. Beverage of choice?

I think anyone who knows me will be able to answer that question in a heartbeat: wine! Any kind! The cheaper the better! If I have the option of choosing, my two favourites are Pinot Grigio and Merlot. I’m also quite partial to a good kir and some bubbly, if it’s available.

2. Any pets?

Sigh. No. I’d love to have a cat, but we live in a central London flat with no outdoor space. Not only that, but our windows don’t have screens (typical in Europe) and they open onto a balcony which runs the length of the old Victorian terrace in which we live. Kitty would be able to scamper up and down the 150-metre terrace, popping in and out of flats at random – great life for a cat until it gets trapped!

3. Dream vacation?

I think I’ve already taken it! For my and Mr TR’s honeymoon, we travelled to a small island off the coast of Croatia. It was absolutely glorious: no cars are allowed; you need to walk over a mountain on a path through pines to get to the beach on the other side; and the water was crystal clear. We stayed in a small inn on the side of the mountain and every morning we’d wake up to a view of the harbour with sailboats drifting in. Bliss.

4. What are you listening to right now?

It’s Sunday morning and I’m filling my ears with Chopin on BBC Radio 3. Weekend mornings are all about classical music for me – there’s something so low-key and relaxing about it.

5. What's for dinner?

Mr TR is away in Japan right now and I honestly can’t be bothered cooking for myself, so tonight it will be mac and cheese. Classy, I know.

***

Talli—you? Wine? I never would have guessed! Ha! I love Pinot Grigio but find Merlot a bit dry. Cabernet Sauvignon is my fave! I agree with you on the kitty issue. What if some old lady in your building decided to close her windows for good? With Kitty inside? We can’t let that happen!

I’m drooling over your dream vacation. And to think you’ve made it happen! Just the thought of a beach, sailboats drifting, and no cars is enough to slow my pulse. Sounds lovely. Your Sunday tradition of classical music is also a fabulous idea. I’ve been loving an old John Coltrane CD all week, and I agree, low-key and relaxing are vital! By the way, Mac and Cheese is always classy. Thanks so much for being my guest today!

***
Construct a Couple

With a great job at a reputable magazine and a man who’s the perfect match, Serenity Holland thinks she’s laid the foundation for an ideal London life. When a routine assignment uncovers a shocking secret threatening her boyfriend’s company, Serenity decides to leave nothing to chance, taking matters into her own hands. Soon, though, she realises keeping secrets isn't as easy as she thought . . . and the consequences are far worse than she ever imagined.
***
Talli Roland writes fun, romantic fiction. Born and raised in Canada, Talli now lives in London, where she savours the great cultural life (coffee and wine). Despite training as a journalist, Talli soon found she preferred making up her own stories—complete with happy endings. Talli’s debut novel The Hating Game was short-listed for Best Romantic Read at the UK’s Festival of Romance, while her second, Watching Willow Watts, was selected as an Amazon Customer Favourite. Her novels have also been chosen as top books of the year by industry review websites and have been bestsellers in Britain and the United States. Build A Man is her latest release. You can learn more about Talli at her website, her blog, by following her on Facebook, and on Twitter. To purchase her books, head to Talli’s Amazon page!

Do you ever listen to classical music? What relaxes you on weekends?

Have an amazing Wednesday!

5 Easy Questions with Lacie Nezbeth!

Thank you for joining me in welcoming…Lacie Nezbeth!!

Lacie and I met through blogging, and it’s so easy to love her! She's an encouraging writer, and I always enjoy her blog posts. Smart and fun, Lacie stays at home with her children and writes historical novels. I’m thrilled to have her here today!

Let’s get to it!

1. Beverage of choice?

I almost always drink water. But it has to have crushed ice because I’m addicted to chomping on ice. It drives my husband crazy though. I have since heard that chewing ice lowers your body temperature so it has to work harder to keep warm, thereby burning a few extra calories. That’s probably not true, but it makes me feel good about my annoying habit. If I’m drinking something other than water, I usually choose Root Beer. Throw in two scoops of ice cream and I’m an extra happy girl.

2. Any pets?

No pets. I’m afraid we’re not pet people. At least the traditional kind. One day, I’d love to have some chickens and horses though.

3. Dream vacation?

I have two. Is that allowed? Dream #1 is an extended trip to Italy to trace my ancestry. I’ve been once before but I’d love to go back when I can speak the language better and talk to some of my distant cousins. I’m obsessed with the NBC show Who Do You Think You Are? Do you watch it? It’s basically one big trip back in time where you meet with historians and dig up tattered documents from your ancestors. Super cool…if you like that sort of thing. Dream #2 is a remote island called Turtle Island in Fiji. I’d love to go with my husband to celebrate our anniversary one year, but it’s so expensive since they only allow something like 12 couples on the island at a time…so that one will probably only happen if we win the lottery!

4. What are you listening to right now?

Right now, I’m listening to Sebastian from The Little Mermaid singing Under the Sea. My girls are in love with mermaids. Ariel in particular, so we watch this movie a lot!

5. What's for dinner?

So, my husband and I just started a crazy new workout program called Insanity, which comes with a detailed menu guide for optimal results. Thankfully, tonight’s a steak night. Although, hubby gets a baked potato and a roll with his meal and I only get a pile of steamed veggies. In what world is that fair! Good thing I like vegetables. But, for some reason, they never truly satisfy like a plate of chili cheese fries or a hot brownie sundae. Why is that?

***

Lacie, anything that helps us burn calories is good! I think adding root beer to the ice does burn even more calories. Can’t remember where I heard that. Maybe Jillian Michaels? Ha! I think it would be fun to have chickens. I’ve always enjoyed farms. Let me know if you get any. And of course you can have two dream trips! I would love to head to Europe and visit the towns my ancestors lived. But Turtle Island sounds amazing…how do you pick? Hmm...

Um, Insanity? I’ve heard of this workout and I’ve been assured it IS insanity! You’re my new hero! I think I’m the queen of exercise when I walk 2 miles. It’s good to top off a hard workout with chili cheese fries. Calcium and veggies, right? Thanks so much for being my guest today, Lacie!

***

From her earliest years, Lacie Nezbeth knew two things—she longed to be a stay at home mom and stories, in any form, captivated her. Today, those two passions have culminated into a fairy tale life that continually points her to God’s overflowing goodness. Her love of history, traveling and research made her decision to write Historical Romances an obvious and fitting choice. When Lacie isn’t working on one of her stories or tackling the unending mountain of laundry produced by her three small kids, she can be found chauffeuring her children to their various activities, talking to herself in the grocery store or plotting ways to get her entire family on another Caribbean cruise.

New friends are always a gift! Connect with Lacie at her blog, on Facebook, and on Twitter.

How do you celebrate spring? Do you plant flowers? Brew sun tea? Have a barbecue? I want to hear!

Have a fantastic Wednesday!

5 Easy Questions with Maria I. Morgan!

Thank you for joining me in welcoming…Maria I. Morgan!!

I met Maria through her beautiful devotional blog, Life Lessons. Maria inspires me. Not only does she encourage our spiritual lives on her blog, she also advocates healthy living—always a welcome subject in my house! I’m thrilled to have her here today.

Let’s get to it!

1. Beverage of choice?

For mornings, it's got to be Maxwell House's Suisse Mocha. The sugar free, decaf variety - since caffeine and I don't get along. The rest of the day? Good old H2O is my beverage of choice! A hint of lemon or lime adds just enough pizzazz to make it refreshing and fun!

2. Any pets?

Absolutely! Our sweet, kitty named Courtney loves being the queen of the house. She has a highly efficient motor and purrs every chance she gets. We have two dogs, a Golden Retriever, Precious, and a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Mighty Joe. They have their own official outdoor 'bark parks,' and thoroughly enjoy greeting everyone who walks by. And just like kids, they have totally different personalities. Precious just loves to cuddle; Joe is all about playing. Our pets often inspire me with topics for my blog, Life Lessons!

3. Dream vacation?

You're really generating some thought on this one, Jill! I love warm weather - so I'm going to say a tropical destination. I love a nice, sandy beach where I can relax with a good book, or get out in the water to kayak or snorkel. Yup! I can imagine it now, completing an award-winning, inspirational, Christian romance novel by Jill Kemerer, before heading out to swim with the exotic fish and sea turtles... Sounds like the perfect vacation to me!

4. What are you listening to right now?

Ahhh! The silence of being the only one at home right now. It's easiest for me to write with no distractions. Reminds me of a Bible verse the Lord has etched into my heart, "Be still, and know that I am God..." (Psalm 46:10; KJV).

5. What's for dinner?

My family's favorite chili - Indian Summer Turkey Chili (a Rachael Ray recipe), served with a field green salad, fruit cup, and cheesecake. The good thing? I made the chili yesterday, so I don't have to cook tonight! Woo-hoo!

***
Maria, I’ve been drinking more water lately, and I’ve noticed it perks me up better than a soda. Not sure how that’s possible! Your pets sound delightful—love strong purring motors and barky dogs.  But I’m sooo with you on silence. Nothing better than a quiet house with no background noise.

I’m inviting myself along on your tropical getaway—and how sweet of you to say that about my books! We’ll have some sunshine, frozen drinks, and a lot of laughter. Anyone else want to join? Oh, and I’m a Rachael Ray magazine subscriber—the chili sounds yummy! Thanks so much for being my guest today!

In an effort to support and promote fellow wordsmiths, I feature authors who write a variety of genres, from sweet inspirational to mainstream thrillers. The writers themselves may be aspiring, published, or best-selling--all have made an impact on my life.

Thank you for joining me in welcoming…Jeanette Levellie!!

Jeanette and I met through blogging, and if you aren’t familiar with her, be prepared to fall in love! She’s such a generous, warm, hilarious writer. I’m thrilled to be hosting her—and get this—her debut humor devotion book, Two Scoops of Grace with Chuckles on Top, releases April 10! Congratulations, Jeanette!

Let’s get to it!

1. Beverage of choice?

5:30 a.m.: coffee, dark roast, prepared in a French press. My bushy-bearded hero gets up at 4:30 a.m. to grind beans and brings me coffee in bed. In the afternoons, I usually have a cup of Tazo Awake tea, and drink herbal tea and water the rest of the day. I am a water fiend.

2. Any pets?

No pets. But I have four babies wearing fur suits. Rocky is a long-haired white and orange male, who purrs whenever he’s near a human; Happy is a brown tabby who snuggles with Rocky, Puddin’ is a pure black female who hides when company comes, and Jolly is a black and white who’s so gregarious that the neighborhood kids ask if he can come out and play!

3. Dream vacation?

Do they have a cruise to Ireland? When I pay off my car this year, I’m saving for a cruise, and I’ve wanted to visit Ireland for many years. My grandmother was a Kelly, and I’d like to see the thousand shades of green Ireland is famous for.

4. What are you listening to right now?

Nothing. Blissful peace and quiet after a long day at the office supply store I manage. My customers are mostly great, but I get a few who pinch my patience and increase my prayer life. When I see them come in, I beg God for grace, or run to the bathroom and “let” my admin assistant deal with them.

5. What's for dinner?

Tonight I cooked Italian Chicken Chests. This is the only recipe in my book, Two Scoops of Grace with Chuckles on Top, which releases April 10th. The recipe accompanies the chapter entitled, Can Preachers Have Sex on Sundays? The reason we call them chicken chests is that, well… you’ll just have to get the book and read it for yourself!

Jeanette, your bushy-bearded hero sounds wonderful! Coffee in bed? Yes! And I snorted in laughter about the customers who increase your prayer life. I was a waitress for years, and I know exactly where you’re coming from. Your furry babies sound so sweet! Kitties are my favorite.

I would love to go to Ireland. There must be a cruise, right? It would be amazing to see the green hills from the sea. Is that even possible? I don’t know! It sounds good, though! And I’m dying to read the chapter about the chicken chests. Ha!! Thanks so much for being my guest today!

February showers brought March flowers here. Is the weather cattywampus (not sure how to spell that gem) where you live? Or is it just Michigan?
Have a wonderful day!

5 Easy Questions with Rosslyn Elliott

Every Wednesday, I ask a writer the same five easy questions. In an effort to support and promote fellow wordsmiths, I feature authors who write a variety of genres, from sweet inspirational to mainstream thrillers. The writers themselves may be aspiring, published, or best-selling--all have made an impact on my life.

Thank you for joining me in welcoming…Rosslyn Elliott!!

I met Rosslyn through mutual blogging friends, and two things struck me—this lady is super smart, and she’s also very down to earth. Rosslyn has a generous spirit, and I’m thrilled to spread the news about her second book in the Saddler’s Legacy series, Sweeter than Birdsong, out now! Her covers are gorgeous. Be sure to head to her beautiful website to check out all of her books!

Let’s get to it!

1. Beverage of choice?

KAWFEE. The morning lifeline! I’m trying to switch to half-caff so I can have two cups instead of one. But two cups of full-caff will make me a scary, edgy Muppet-like creature.
2. Any pets?

Two dogs, the heavenly hound and the “other dog.” Ha! Our dog Snow is absolutely perfectly mannered. Frosty is, well, not, but we love him and squeeze him anyway.
3. Dream vacation?

Tonight I am really in the mood for a long restful vacation. So I would like to go for a week or two to a quiet retreat in the mountains, near a clear stream with a rocky bed for wading, just our small family and the dogs. I’d like to read by the fire in a nice recliner and have all meals appear on our table, prepared and served by invisible sprites, all with candlelight, china, and crystal. Everything would be whisked away and washed somewhere out of sight and mind by our fairy friends. This isn’t my dream vacation at all times—just now, when I want to rest and read.
4. What are you listening to right now?

My daughter’s sweet little snoring noises.

5. What's for dinner?

Leftover chicken casserole. Bring on the fairy cooks!

Rosslyn, two cups of caffeinated coffee turn you into scary, edgy creature? This I have to see! I, unfortunately, seem to be immune to the effects because I just keep guzzling it. Or maybe I do turn into a freak show but I don’t realize it since I’m alone? I’m sensing a hidden camera moment. By the way, I love the winter theme with your pets. Snow and Frosty! Cute!

Your current dream vacay sounds so, so marvelous. I love the mountains, and hiking, and reading by the fire, and magical fairies who cook and clean. Guess who’s coming along?! I won’t even wake your sweet baby girl. Promise! Thanks so much for being my guest today!

I’ve completely let my exercise and health routine slide. Who is willing to kick me in the buns today?

Tough love, people. Tough love! (No chocolate. Okay, maybe a little chocolate? That isn’t tough? Grr…)

I’ll be in and out this week because I'm teaching a fiction workshop to local 7th and 8th graders. You wouldn’t believe their imaginations. So fun!

Have an amazing Wednesday!
