One Goal Friday: June 18, 2010

Sixteen years ago, I woke up and scraped Lee Press-On Nails off of my fingers for over an hour. What possessed me to attempt fake nails the day of my wedding, I'll never know. Later, I donned an elaborate gown with puffy sleeves, gobs of lace, and a stunning train. I begged my mom to stop and get McDonald's fries on the way to the wedding (she didn't). Then, out of happiness, I bawled like a baby all the way up the aisle, and my legs visibly trembled as we said our vows.

I didn't have a single doubt that I was marrying the right man. The perfect man for me. My hero.

We were among the last to leave our reception--it was just that fun! I wish I had a scanner to post one of our wedding pictures. We looked so young! Well, we were so young.

Some things haven't changed. I still regularly enjoy McDonald's fries, and I still don't have a single doubt I married the right man. The perfect man for me. My hero.

So...last week my goal was to enjoy my anniversary. I can safely say I'm accomplishing that!

Here are your goals:

Kelly: Figure out work situation
Heather: Continue self-editing for June 25th goal (Happy Anniversary!!)
Wendy: Post new pictures (They are GORGEOUS!!)
Kelly F: 1000 words at family reunion
Lynn: Complete Creative Boot Camp
Maria: Write three devotions
Amber J: Take a photograph and write every other day
Julie J: Editing chapter two of YA
Angie: Blow the dust off the manuscript and get to work
Cindy: 23K by Friday
Tamika: Write everyday
Raquel: Finish outlining and start writing
Beth M: Make it to Florida in one piece, enjoy family, and finish first draft (Happy Anniversary!!)
Hannah: Push through and study for finals (Hope you got those A's!)
Diane J: Slay passive voice
Jen: Finish index of book and lose another pound
Karen L: Keep walking, finish and submit two articles, and start working on lessons for teen class in fall
Janet J: The evil synopsis (How did you fare? I spent A LOT of time on mine!)
Susan JR: Edit next two chapters of "The Moses Conspiracy"
Kristen T: Do laundry, clean, and get groceries before Sunday (And Yay! You did it! Now come over and do mine.)
Erica: 12K words
CMOM: Catch up on blogs at least once a week
Tyrean: Finish home school lessons, survive dance recital week, and relax
Maria S: Finish reading Invisible Man and not get fired (I don't think you have to worry!)

Love these goals! Look how much everyone is accomplishing. Amazing!

My new goal is to revise ten chapters based on critique advice. I also have another goal--to catch up with everyone's blogs. Life rampaged at about 100mph the last two weeks, but it's on schedule to slow down. I miss all of you!

What one goal will you set this week to make your life better?

Please leave your goal in the comment section. Newcomers are welcome to participate, and don't worry if you can't stop by every Friday--my blog's goal isn't to add stress but to be a place of support.

Have a terrific weekend!

  1. Writing goal- leave the darn thing alone Tab and go write something else (my memoir is on submission)

  2. Happy anniversary! I celebrated mine last week too!

I have a goal of 20 pages written by next Friday.

  3. So glad you got to celebrate your anniversary! Thanks for the comment up there.

My goal this next week is to make some big decisions (how's that for vague?).
    ~ Wendy

  4. I agree about Wendy's pictures! And I just posted my last Creativity Boot Camp post! The end was the easiest, I must say.
Goal this week is to write a good piece on inspiration.

  5. Good morning!

Woo-hoo! You ladies know what to do--now go and enjoy this Friday!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  6. I think my goal is to downsize and go very slowly with all that I do. I am frazzled and need to rest while I work, so to speak. Somehow I got oveercommitted again and I try very hard not to do that.

  7. I didn't get my work done, but I did enjoy myself!
    Family took presidence.
That's okay, I only see them once a year.

I'll be thinking about my goal for this next week.
Probably just to get up and face the blank page...Here goes nothin'!

  8. Happy Anniversary, Jill and Hero! I hope it's a lovely, memorable day.

I want to find balance this next week, between writing, kids, and home.

  9. Happy anniversary, Jill! Ours was last week, too.

A goal to make my life better: Stretch more often. I hope to do at least 20 minutes of Yoga 3 times a week.

  10. Yay, I'm so glad you're enjoying your anniversary!

I made my goal--in fact, had so much fun writing, I surpassed it by 6,000 words. Woo hoo! I LOVE this WIP. So, I plan on trying to make it to 40K by next Friday.

Have an awesome and relaxing weekend!

  11. Happy anniversary!

I did not accomplish my goal :( So, same one for next week - edit chapter 2 of my YA.

  12. For all you frazzled non-goal completers--I hear you. It's been crazy around here! Sit back, grab an iced tea and relax. Things will settle down and you'll be able to meet your goals.

For all you goal-getters--awesome job! (Happy Anniversary to many of you too!) You're inspiring me!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  13. Get two additional blockbuster (right) chapters to dear agent.

I love the sweetness of your romance and your site.

  14. Happy Anniversary! Glad you are having a good week married to the man of your dreams. BTW, I love McDonald's fries too:)

My goal next week is to continue with more time in the Word. And maybe stop for fries.

    Have a good weekend all,

  15. I did write 2 devotions - but they weren't for my WIP. After much conversation with my husband (and after 20 years, I can say I married the right man, the perfect man for me!!!!) I realized I need to do quite a bit of research before sitting down to write. I've rearranged goals and look forward to getting down to work. Goal for next week? Begin the research process - answer those questions that beg for answering! Have a blessed weekend, Jill. :)

  16. I'm so touched by your post. I praise God for the love you have for your husband. I love hearing about people who stay married and live for one another in this world rife with divorce. You just made my day. My goal for next week is to finish up one proposal and start on the next!

  17. Great wedding story! I probably would have gotten my kid the fries, taken pictures and then blogged about it later.... :O)

  18. My goal is to continue to walk this summer. I made a goal of walking at least 120 miles this summer.
    And I will do it.
Yup, siree I will do it.
    Those roses are beautiful!!!

  19. Also congrats to you and your husband for making it to your first anniversary. Keep it up!

  20. Congratulations on your anniversary!

My goal is to edit one chapter a day. Very doable and if I do more, then all the better :)

  21. Happy anniversary!!

My goal is to add another 12 k to my manuscript. :)

  22. Whoa, I'm just squeaking in under the least here in Happy Anniversary!

I'm at 10K so far and going to get those other 2K tomorrow!

  23. That's so great that you found your perfect guy! The rest of us envy you in that regard. :)
My goal was completed this week, and not only did I not get fired, I got a "promotion!" (I don't know if it's a realy promotion, that's why its in parentheses)
So. My goal for this week is to make my dad's father's day a happy one and to not get fired at my new job...

  24. Jill:
We lost my husband's sister. She's in heaven. We have her funeral this Monday. Then we have to find out about disposing of her belongings. I guess my goal for this coming week is to lean on God's arms and get through the things we have to do.

  25. Happy Annniversary! 16 years is wonderful!

My biggest goal for this next week is to enjoy my family and time in the sun...and write when the mood strikes...

    Have a lovely weekend, Jill!

  26. Ack, I never do goals.
What a sweet post about your marriage! IT seems like a lot of romance writers have good marriages. I'm glad he's still your hero. :-)

I love to hear from you!
