Overwhelmed on Monday

Things have been piling up at my house. Magazines. Bills. Dishes. Outgrown clothes. Beach towels. You name it, we have a pile for it!

Then there are the to-do's. The laundry. Groceries. Returning the library books. Sports' practices. Dog vaccinations. You know what I'm talking about!

I let a lot of things simmer on the back burner last month, and this morning they all glared at me. Accusations whispered, "How could you let so much dust settle? The ridiculous pile of junk mail and bills must be conquered immediately. And don't even think about relaxing until you get groceries. You need to get everything done. Today!"

But...but I can't get all that done! Not without my coffee!!

My day planner and a mini-yellow legal pad sits next to me. I'm not wasting another minute beating myself up about all of the waiting chores and tasks. And I'm not trying to get it all done in one day, either. No, I'm scheduling it all. And I'm delegating anything I can!

See? Now I can lounge on the couch for an hour with my dog and my coffee, guilt free! Ahh...

Do you get overwhelmed on Monday? How do you get through it?

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  1. All you can do is dance one step at a time. The mess didn't pile up in one day, it won't get cleaned in one day. Just keep attacking the piles. A colleague of mine works in 90 min. blocks and takes a 30 min. break. It's actually a 20 min. break because he uses the last 10 min. to plan his next task(s). I've been giving it a try and instead of knowing I've been busy all day, but can't see any results, I can actually see I've made a dent.

    1. I like your plan! I'm going to give it a try this afternoon. I need to start cleaning out my kitchen cupboards!

  2. I think you have the right idea, Jill. Make a schedule, adding in all the little things that are piling up, and tackle them one at a time.

And don't forget to celebrate the little victory of checking them all off the list!

  3. I try to prep as much as I can Sunday night so I don't feel so rushed on Monday mornings. Like setting the coffee pot even helps me tons! And I make my bed. Something about making my bed feels like things are going smoothly even if they aren't. LOL

  4. I've been living in a state of overwhelmed for the last couple months. I definitely keep a list of things I need to get done. And I prioritize what I need to get done. I focus on getting the top three things done for one day. I've had to let some things go and to be okay with that. But the piles are growing in my house too, so I'm working on getting through one at a time.

I'm with Jessica. I prep as much as I can on Sunday night so that Monday morning is not quite so overwhelming. And, I LIKE DELEGATING! Though my kids aren't quite so fond of it as I am. ;)

    1. Same here! Yikes! My kids aren't fans of my delegating either, but it's better than having me spazz out!
