Do you have a writing partner? Someone to bounce ideas off? To plot with? Or maybe someone who quietly supports you?
Well, I have three crazy writing partners. None help with plotting. None help with critiquing. But all add a level of surprise to my writing sessions.
This is Cookie. She's my big, Himalayan baby. We've had her for over thirteen years and she's shared moves, new babies, new homes, new yards, and everthing else that we've been through.
She likes to hop on my lap or my laptop, which is extra helpful, while I write.
I can't imagine writing without her!
This is our guinea pig, Domino. He had a brother Snickers who passed on last year. The kids made a special celebration for his third birthday. He used to hang out in the office with me, but he moved to another area of the house. I sometimes miss his chatter, but I stroll down the hall with strawberry tops now and then.
Here's our new addition. Sophie, the mini-dachshund, or Sophilicious as I like to call her. She's a sweet little weenie-dog, but she's added a level of excitement to writing I'm not sure I'd properly prepared myself for. When I'm in the middle of an intense scene, I peek at her only to find she's eating a shoe, or tearing up a towel. I've had to move my laptop to our kitchen because she tends to get in trouble in our office. Still, it's fun to have a warm puppy curled up on my lap when I'm writing.
Cookie and Sophie do not love each other yet. However, Sophie adores Cookie. A little too much. As soon as Sophie sees the big pile of fluff walk by, she jumps on Cookie's head, thrilled to have another animal to play with, but Cookie, well, she's just not into it. They've made progress. Cookie only hisses occasionally, and I haven't heard her gutteral growl in at least a week. Maybe they'll be friends after all?
Notice Cookie's glowing eye and her defensive body language. Everything about her says, I hate my life!
Poor kitty. Something tells me she'll survive this too.
Who are your writing partners? Do you have any furry helpers?
Join me on Friday to set one goal for the upcoming week!
I have a black cat, Ink. He's especially fond of getting on my drafting table when I'm not looking and drinking the dirty paint/ink water. Sometimes I wonder why I bother giving him clean, fresh water every day!
ReplyDeleteOh, I don't have any furry pals. Wah!!
ReplyDeleteBut I would LOVE a weenie dog! Do they shed much?
I have a big fat fluffy white Samoyed, but she doesn't do a whole lot to contribute to my writing process. ;)
ReplyDelete~ Wendy
Good Morning!
ReplyDeleteCJ: Ink! Perfect name for your occupation and the cat's color. Why do animals thrive on disgusting water? One of life's mysteries!
Jennifer: Not unless you get a long-haired or wire-haired. Our smooth mini-dachshund sheds very little and the hairs are tiny like eyelashes.
Wendy: Oh, I'll bet she's a big sweetheart! Give her a hug for me!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
I'm cracking up! I loved getting a glimpse of your writing partners this morning, Jill! But I can just imagine the "pleasure" Cookie derrives from your newest addition! Our cats barely tolerate our dog too. It's fun to watch them! Thanks for sharing the pictures and giving us an inside look at your "family!"
ReplyDeleteAw! So cute. My 10-year-old cat drives me nuts when I write. She wants to be right on my arms. That makes it a little difficult to work.
ReplyDeleteAren't they great? What a wonderful team backing you up. I have a cat, Puddin. She likes to sit beside the monitor while I'm typing and swipe at the cursor moving on the screen.
ReplyDeleteShe might actually be pointing out misspelled words, or something amiss with the manuscript, so we're working on the communication thing ;)
I have a French Bulldog and a MinPin who are here. I really don't think they help me write however. More like stare at me till I get them a treat...LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to convince hubby to let me have a little puppy.
ReplyDeleteA few more years and I think I'll have him! Pray Jill!
My real life writing buddies are my awesome critique partner, Anne, and and my hubby, who helps me plot my stories. (He's really good at it too.)
ReplyDeleteMy furry partners are two big orange long-haired skitty kitties. Sometimes they come in my office to nap. Just yesterday one of the brothers stretched out on my computer desk with the tip of his tail over the keyboard. I kept typing, and his tail kept switching. My perseverance paid off when he decided to face the other direction. :)
I have a big, black lab. He lays at my feet while I'm writing.
ReplyDeleteCute! You have a big heart--I'm just dreading what might pop out of my mouth if someone jumped on my keyboard while I was writing =P Nope, no animals here, as my oldest is terribly allergic to all things furry. We must share the grandparents new dog!
ReplyDeleteJody: They're funny, aren't they? If I could just get the puppy to play hard to get, we might have more peace!
ReplyDeleteJulie: We had a siamese like that when I was young. Had to be front and center at all times. I loved her!
Joanne: Aww, Puddin', helping you type. Isn't that thoughtful of her? :)
J.J.: They sound so cute! Give them a treat on me!
Tamika: You need a little puppy. Tell your hubby I said so!
Keli: Oh, your hubby sounds fabulous! And maybe the kitties are trying to help clean the keyboard? :)
Susan M: Ahh, a foot warmer! Nice!
Georgiana: Ha! At least you can pop by the grandparents to see their dog, right?
Thanks so much for stopping by!
I have Midgie and Bucket - two kitties that I adore. They generally ignore me all day...until I start to write. Then they can't get enough of me, my lap, or my computer!
ReplyDeleteSweet animals! :) I love Sophie!
ReplyDeleteI love your pictures, and what wonderful writing friends!
ReplyDeleteMy cat likes to sit between me and my keyboard and remind me how neglectful of her I'm being. :)
I love your pictures. You are GORGEOUS!! I am so not an animal person, though. Pretty much anything with teeth scares me. And even ducks, who have no teeth, scare me. So yeah. :)
ReplyDeleteKarin: Aw, Midgie and Bucket--cute names! I'm sure they're sweethearts!
ReplyDeleteCMOM: Thanks, I wish Cookie did too!
Erica: Oh, I'm guilty too! I get in the zone and neglect everything.
Elana: Ha! Ha! I'm guessing geese don't excite you either? We have a ton of them around here!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Laura the dog bounces off plot ideas and is good at remaining neutral during sticky issues.
ReplyDeleteMy human crit partners include Cammie and Sara and Kasey and Lee!
Love 'em!

How sweet they are! I don't have any furry friends right now.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Susan :)
My poodle and I talk things out whenever we get a chance. :0)
ReplyDeleteHi Jill, Thanks for sharing the furrier foe of your family. I used have a cat, Zues, until the crazy neighbour decided he was hers, and stole him. She was arrested but poor Zues got loose, and we haven't seen him since. So no more cat prints across my lap top, or furry rubs while I fight to see the screen. But maybe one day he'll come back, and I will have a new cat tale to tell.
ReplyDeleteAw, you have very beautiful writing partners! Very sweet!
ReplyDeletePatti: Laura is the perfect writing partner! Cute!!
ReplyDeleteSusan J.R.: None? Don't walk by the kitty rescue section of PetSmart, or you'll be going home with one!
Kristen: Your poodle gets you :)
Lynn: Crazy, cat-stealing neighbor?? Yikes!! I hope Zeus comes back.
Nisa: Thanks!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Oh my goodness, cute! (And I like the picture of you!) I see how each is so special.
ReplyDeleteMy only homebound writing partner is the 4yo, from whom I get more "Mommy, I need you!" and "Mommy, come here!" than anything constructive. ;)
I love Cookie! That last picture of Cookie, Sophie, and You is great! I love Cookie's face, she looks like she's going to hock a hairball on Sophie's bed when she gets out of your arms. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI have four hairballs: Spook, he's a black cat and he feels like he never gets enough attention. Sophie, who is a blue-cream persian and absolutely hates everybody except my husband. And then we have Stan and Ollie (ala Laurel and Hardy) who are grey-striped tabbies. Stan is a little more easy-going, although he loves to wrap himself around our calves and chomp away. Ollie is a big lunk. He so wants to be the Alpha male, but in a Godfather-type way, LOL.
