October's Final Weekend

It's not possible. Simply not possible! October is almost over? Again? That means Thanksgiving and Christmas will be plowing through soon.

Do you have any plans this festive weekend? Maybe a bit of trick-or-treating with the wee ones?A harvest party? Hike through a corn maze? Costume party? Or maybe you stay in and watch spooky movies?

It's also the weekend to celebrate the Protestant Reformation. Way back on October 31, 1517, Martin Luther stuck his 95 Theses to a church door at Wittenburg, in Saxony, Germany, thus paving the way for church reform. For more interesting facts about Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation, here's a link to a fantastic article at Suite 101: Martin Luther and the Reformation.

Whatever you do this weekend, I hope you enjoy it and the weather holds out for you!

Have a fabulous weekend!

  1. Have a great weekend. We finally have a weekend with nothing on. Not many people celebrate Halloween here. So we are probably doing some shopping and then perhaps if Mommy is lucky, a Nana Nap in the afternoon?!

  3. I can't believe it either. It seems like it was just spring and I was planting my tomato garden! Time, time ... where does it go? We're giving out goodies to the kids who come around, Happy Halloween to you!

  4. Good morning!

Tabitha: A weekend of nothing--sounds delightful! I'm crossing my fingers you get that Nana Nap!

Joanne: I know! This year had wings. You do realize we'll be assaulted with Christmas music in a few days, don't you? Good thing it's my favorite time of the year!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  7. Thanks for the link! This weekend we're off to a CFL football game for my father's birthday, then rushing home to hand out candy. On Sunday, I'm running the Kick-Off event for NaNoWriMo in our region... so it's going to be a packed weekend! I'm looking forward to it, but I know I'll be exhausted by the end. Hope your weekend is fantastic too!

  9. Hey!!

I'm not a huge Halloween person. It has more to do with memories than anything else. I don't care if anyone celebrates, but I usually just stay home on the couch and watch non-scary things (I don't do scary either). I hope you have a great weekend, Jill! See you next week!

  10. Thanks Jill. I hope you have a fabulous weekend too.

Hubby and I are celebrating seven years of wedding bliss and bumps! Ha!

The kids are raring for harvest full of candy too.

  11. My girls are all grown up so no more going out to trick or treat. We don't get many trick or treaters because we live on the main road in our rural town no street lights or sidewalks. I do buy a bag of candy (we like) just in case. The Young One and I will park ourselves on the couch and watch a classic horror movie. Hope you have a great weekend.

  12. What a neat detail, Jill, I didn't know that about the Reformation! Very important.

We have school parties today, and trick-or-treating for my kitty cat and Tigger tomorrow. Should be fun!

  14. The kids are overloaded with plans this weekend, so I'll be spending a good chunk of it driving from place to place, but other than that, I'm planning on getting a lot of revisions done.

  19. Well Jill, my kids are still too young (3 months and 19 months) to really have a good time. I have a great time watching how they squirm in their incredibly cute and uncomfortable costumes, but that's just a mommy thing I think. We may go to a Harvest Festival that a church across the street is having. I hope you have a great weekend.

  20. Happy Halloween Jill! We'll be doing some trick-or-treating with the kids and a couple of fun parties with friends!

I saw the play "Luther" about the life of Martin Luther when I was in college and studying in England for a semester. It was so incredibly powerful!

  21. For the first time in years, we're going to a costume party. I've got a pig snout and some devil's ears; yes, I'm going as the case of swine flu from hell.

  22. Love Reformation Day! :)

We usually have friends over who, like us, don't do the whole scary halloween thing. We play games and talk and eat veggie pizza and candy (nutritionally neutral.) :)

  27. We don't do Halloween. Our church is having Hallelujah Night - fun, games, and candy for the kids and adults.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)

  30. We're heading out tomorrow afternoon to a Harvest Party at our church. It's an annual tradition. The kids get to play games and win candy. Then if we have time afterward, we trick-or-treat around the neighborhood. It's always a busy day trying to get everyone into a costume of some kind! But it's full of priceless memories!

  31. Kinda sad I let the family talk me into taking down the Christmas decorations around May or June. Almost time to put 'em up again!

  32. I've had such a weekend that this is the first time I've been on blogger since Thursday. CRAZY! Trick or Treating was fun. We had no soccer games this weekend, and I gained an hour over night. It's nice to have some computer time while I have coffee b/f I actually have to get ready for church. What a blessing to get to wake up slowly. I love when daylight savings time ends.

    Have a wonderful Sunday!

  33. So many people get caught up in Halloween that I think they forget about the other, certainly more important, anniversary.
As for the Halloween celebrations, kids went to parties and I handed out candy. Love to see all the little kids in their costumes.

  34. We had a pretty good weekend. I got to see my son's field show (his high school marching band) and take the twins to the spiffiest trick-or-treating neighborhood. Today my husband was not well, but I've been fumigating the house with Lysol and quarantining him to the bedroom, so hopefully, the rest of us will remain well.

    How was your weekend?
