Ah, Choices

On Monday, I was stressed. I've been worried about my parents. Mom and I met in Lansing to start planning her financial future, and on the way, I ordered a non-healthy value meal from McDonald's, including a large Coke (my absolute favorite!).

I arrived in town about half an hour early, so I stopped at a gas station for a coffee. But I didn't buy a coffee--no, I bought a large cappuccino, a bag of M&Ms, and a very-berry Starburst.

Considering I'm trying to firm up to fit into my summer clothes, these were poor choices. However, when I'm emotionally fragile, I turn to sugar.

I ate half the Starbursts, drank most of the coffee, and let the M&Ms live to see another day. They're in my purse as we speak.

The meeting went well--thank goodness--and I ate a light dinner that night. Yesterday I went grocery shopping, and stocked up on fruits, vegetables, yogurt, cheese, and other healthy snacks. While I contemplated buying a lemon, I asked myself, "Are you getting healthy?" The answer was "yes." Slices of lemon in sparkling water help me bypass soda. So I threw the lemon in my cart.

None of these choices are exciting, but we all read magazine articles encouraging us to not let a set-back keep us from our health goals. I have a LOT of setbacks! But I try to not get down on myself. I usually make better choices the next day. If I can do it, anyone can!

Do you struggle with eating healthy, exercising, or another area of your life? How do you bounce from a bad choice?

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Candy Day!

Guess what? It's candy day!

The princesses, pirates, superheroes, and zombies run door to door, holding their bags open for sugary loot. And I love it! Why? Well, for one, I like kids and it makes me smile to see their excitement.

But the main reason? I love candy!

I've been snacking on Fun-Size candy bars all month long, but tonight, after trick-or-treating, the candy explosion begins. Yes, I will beg my kids to share. They get the good stuff. No, I won't sneak their Kit Kats or Twix--they love them too much--but I'm all in for their Peanut M&M's, Tootsie Rolls, Snickers, and any other candy they decide is share-worthy.

Come on, chant it with me: Candy! Candy! Candy!

Hooray!

What is your favorite type of candy?

Happy Reformation Day! (Bet you forgot about that one, didn't you?) *wink*

What's Your Favorite Candy?

Bombarded with candy?

The supermarket aisles loom over me, threatening to pummel me with Reese's, Milky Ways, M&M's, and Snickers. Everywhere I look, there's a jumbo bag of Skittles, Milk Duds, or Laffy Taffy. I'm not sure if I should pile the bags and jump into them or run, screaming for my life.

I love candy. But the next two months bring too much candy into my life. Am I a passive bystander in the candy volcano? No. I willingly pick up the giant pouch of Peanut M&M's. I clip coupons to snag the Hershey's Pot of Gold. I nibble on remnants from trick-or-treating.

It's wonderful.

But...

Not wonderful.

I have cavity-prone teeth. I have jeans I would like to fit into at Christmas. I have a sweet-tooth jutting out of my jaw all the way to the floor.

Does all this candy tempt you? Does it seem excessive? Do you want to throw yourself in or run away from the mounds of sugar?

I can walk away from a lot of things but not M&M's.

What's your favorite candy?

Have a great weekend!
