One Goal Friday: April 23, 2010

I'm trying not to blink. The pink, purple, and white blossoms on the trees won't stay long, and I don't want to miss them. My mood's been fantastic, probably because I haven't needed a winter coat in a whole week. Oh, and I'm almost done revising my current book.

On a crueler note, I started jogging. Yeah. Started jogging. The exercising portion of my day is pretty rough. I'm the type of person who appears to be fit, but in reality, am losing muscle tone on an hourly basis due to my penchant for chocolate chunk cookies and sitting on the couch. Hence the lacing up of sneakers, the deep breath of why-am-I-doing-this-again, and the grimace of death as my feet begin to move. It's not pretty. But I can already see results, and that alone makes it worth it.

It's Friday! Time to set one goal for the upcoming week, one goal that will bring you closer to your dream or will enhance your life. It can be related to work, family, fun, or anything at all.

My goal last week was to line edit the first ten chapters of my novel, and yes, I met it. It always surprises me how many changes I make after the first two revision passes. Come on, you'd think I would have caught this stuff. Oh well, that's the beauty of revising.

Here are your goals from last week:

CJ: Buy new athletic shoes
Katie: Write every day between 5:00-6:00am (Gulp!)
J.J.: Rewrite first half of WIP
Amber J: Visit a friend, start advertising small photo biz, and share a writing piece
Kelly: Write for one hour on two nights
Karen L: Get house together
Cindy: Reach 30K words
Paul: See if the book idea will take off
Erica: Finish rewrites and send to cp's
Natalie: Finish two beta reads for friends
Keli G: Clear off desk
Julie J: Write 1K every day
Maria: Post on blog twice and write two devotions
Elana: Get conference presentation done
Kristen T: Prepare for trip
Susan JR: Work on editing book two
Terri: Start revising rough draft
Janna: Continue editing
Heather: Settle into new routine, send three chapters to cp, read through first 150 pages
Quiet Spirit: Get house in order
Niki: Prioritize writing and attend the ACFW Colorado writing retreat
Lisa and Laura: Catch up on blogs
Lynn: Write two hours a day
Nancy: Maybe next week?
Patti: Get back to routine of daily page rate now that book is in editor's hands

Awesome, awesome goals!

My new goal? Buy birthday gifts for my mom and my mother-in-law.

What one goal will enhance your life this week?

Please leave your goal in the comment section. Newcomers are welcome to participate!

Have a terrific weekend!

  1. Finishing up my pitch and get everything ready for the confernce.
And I did do some of my goal from last week--line editied 6 chapters for my new book:)

  2. Yikes, I didn't write a goal for last week. How did that happen?

Hmm. My goal for next week is to get to 38K on my WIP.
    ~ Wendy

  3. It's Friday? Already?!? I didn't meet my goal of writing for one hour two nights this week, but I did write for two hours one day so maybe that kind of counts. My goal for this week is to spray paint our porch swing. I have the paint, I have it taped... I just need a non windy day & some motivation!

  4. Yup, I bought my new athletic shoes. Wore them on a mile walk with a friend. We're planning on working out together. She's a fitness instructor and we worked on a core program. My goal this week, is to survive the core exercises.

  5. My goal this week is to finish the re-write on my memoir. I am close. Very close. I just need to push to the end.

  6. Love this built-in accountability tool, Jill! Blogged twice, finished one devotional that I've already submitted - one more to go today! I can do it!! Goal for next week? Celebrate 20 years of marriage to my wonderful husband (April 28)! Have a great weekend, girl!!

  7. Best wishes on the jogging. I'm a walker, and am at the point that if I miss a day or two, I get itchy to get back out there and move around. My goal for next week? To seriously clean up my files on Word! Happy weekend ...

  8. I SOOOO want to be a jogger, but I must lose a few more pounds first, to be safe.

Let's see, I need to finish editing my WIP so I can sent to my CP--whose goal it was to send me hers, I see. Hee hee.

  9. One thing that will enhance my life - spending much needed time in the Word. The other thing would be family time:)
    Have a good weekend,

  10. Hey, Jill. I downloaded and started the program, Couch-2-5K on my iphone two weeks ago. It's an internval training program designed to force me, not-a-runner-me, to run a 5K in nine weeks. And it works with my ipod music. I'm liking it. It's such a quick way to get in a 30 minute workout w/o having to drive to the gym. We'll see. I'll let you know how it goes.

Unfortunately, I didn't meet all of my goals. I have worked very hard toward them, though, and I have made quite a bit of progress.
This week I plan to be edited and rewritten through 40k words. Yikes, that's a scary goal, but that's the goal. And I hope to run through week 3 of the Couch2-5K.

    Have a happy weekend!!

  11. Wow, those are some great goals everyone had this week. I met my goal, actually surpassed it by 6,500 words which is a good thing (as you know) since I need to get this WIP done.

My goals for this week. Sign daughter up for gymnastics, renew ACFW membership and write at least 15 k (hopefully more) words. Ahhh!

  12. Although I didn't get my desk completely cleared off, I made some serious progress. My goal this week is to get away from the computer and work in the yard for a while.

  13. Did okay two days, not so good today. BUT hey, it's FRIDAY!!!

  14. Way to go on those line edits!!
My goal for the coming week. Jump back into a book now that I've gotten responses from beta-readers and do a fine-tuning revision.

  15. Not quite finished with edits yet, but nearly so.

Goal for this week: Survive the flood of Genesis entries that will be pouring in from my judges. :)

  16. My goal this week is to do a cover letter for the article I just finished and send it out. Also, Put the quotes I just got into a piece that is not looking like it's going to be anywhere near what I had originally planned. That could take me a whole alone, LOL.

  17. Yay! I'm so happy to see everyone's progress!

    Happy Anniversary, Maria!

Thank you all so much for stopping by and updating your progress!

  18. I'm back on track and will have a goal next time. I'm so glad you got your work done.

  19. Sort of.....I sort of met my goal. I'm doing all sorts of researching and brainstorming right now, so it's difficult to measure my success.

    My new goal:
    Write my hero's backstory.

  20. I NEED to organize a few kitchen cabinets. The hubby even hinted about it this morning. Eeep.

  21. I met my goal! This week my goal is to keep the house clean and get my word count done.

  22. To get my blog and new computer fully operational! Aaarghhhhh! :O)

  23. I completely understand the chocolate chip cookies; but jogging?? :) Good for you!

This weeks goal: To meet all my deadlines, on time.

  24. Haha, I'm totally the same way with exercise. I know I should, but it gets so tiresome and I eventually end up ruing the point in each day where I have to go run around aimlessly for an hour. So I switch routines between rollerblading, biking, swimming, and running. It makes it more fun.
And that tree looks beautiful! I don't think we have any cherry blossom trees near us.
    Hmmmmm. This week's goal:
study for biology every single day.

  25. Jill:
I made SOME progress. But I have to be sure I don't undo what I have done LOL!
We were planning on going on vacation the end of this month. Now we aren't. I still need to work on our house because when the weather warms we have to get some work done on our house.

I love to hear from you!
