Welcome to my new vlog series, 2 Minute Resolutions!
Each month I'm sharing a quick webisode on one of my resolutions and how I'm achieving my goal.
First up? Memorizing Bible passages!
Any tips on making memorization easy as 1-2-3?
Did you make any resolutions this year? Or do you not believe in them?
I'm also excited to announce Jessica R. Patch is now offering a critique service! Head to her website for more information!
Have a terrific Friday!
I have to say it out loud too. And I agree that writing it down helps tremendously! I don't really make resolutions. But I have some goals and learning more scripture is one! Susan Tuttle is doing that on Wednesdays and each month she posts a new one and pins it to her Pinterest board. I'm jumping on board with that! :)
ReplyDeleteCool!! Thanks for telling me about Susan's Wednesday posts--I'll make sure I check them out! And you're very welcome! I'm so excited for all of the people who decide to use your services. They're in for a treat!!
DeleteAnd I hit publish too fast! Thanks so much for the shout-out! :)
ReplyDeleteOH! I saw your title and was like "me too, me too!!" cause I'm doing this this year too! Then I saw Jess's comment:) What's helping me is this app I found this week - FighterVerse. It let's you add your own verses (just type in the reference and it brings it up) and then it will quiz you on it, let you add it to your lock screen on your phone (I did), etc. And if they already have the verse listed, they even put it to a little diddy and sing it to you--HAHA:)
ReplyDeleteWow, that sounds like an awesome app, Susan! Thanks for sharing it! I don't have a smart phone, or any device technologically advanced enough for apps, but I'll share that info! Sounds fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteLove your videos, Jill. I thought of Susan immediately when I saw your post, too, because I know she's focusing on memorization this year! Fun...you're both challenging me. I'm going to look into that app she recommends as well!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Melissa! I just looked into Fighter Verses--really cool. You can choose from five Bible translations! Love it!
DeleteI memorized so many verses as a kid in AWANA. It's cool because Scripture will just pop into my head sometimes. I haven't memorized any in awhile, though. A good challenge!
ReplyDeleteSame here, Lindsay! I love when a bit of Scripture comes to me. I want more!
DeleteJill, what great reminders about Scripture memorization! I LOVE the Fighter Verses app (in fact, my upcoming blog post is all about it). Also, I keep an index card spiral (found at dollar stores) and write verses in there that I've committed to memorize. And write, write, WRITE them over and over. I love writing anyway, but it also helps the penmanship. :)
ReplyDeleteI never thought to get an index spiral. I love those things! It would keep it all in one place. Smart!
DeleteLove your tips on scripture memorization, Jill! I use the index card, method, too. I even have one taped on my closet wall right now (so every time I reach for my clothes in the morning, the first thing I see is that scripture. Chron 4:10).
ReplyDeleteI don't do "New Year's Resolutions," per se, but I do make lists of goals. One of mine this year (and it has nothing to do with writing) is to transfer wedding photos to a new album. I had a nasty surprise over the summer when I opened our old one...the leather had accumulated moisture inside the tissue paper where it was wrapped. I was left with a sticky, icky mess, but thankfully, our photos were ok!
What a great idea! I might have to add a Bible verse to my closet! :) Sorry about your wedding photos, though. I hope the project isn't too hard!
DeleteOh, wow, you're good. I haven't memorized verses in a long time too. There is a man in our church who is older and kind of almost legally blind, but when he's at Bible study, he doesn't need to be able to see, he has all the Bible-verse by verse all in his head. It's amazing.
ReplyDeleteThat's part of what my motivation is. I want to KNOW this stuff!
DeleteGood tips on memorizing, Jill. To remember things, I need to say it, write it and hear it (several times). Good luck to you , Jill!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kelly! It's harder for me now that I'm older and have more chaos crammed in my brain! :)
DeleteEach of your tips is exactly how I used to memorize Shakespeare soliloquys we were assigned in school. Great ideas, Jill! And I would suggest keeping another copy of your index cards in the car, so when you're waiting to pick up the kids, or stuck in traffic, you can pull one of those out and make good use of the time!
ReplyDeleteHappy 2013,
Kathy
Memorizing scripture is so important. During times of crisis and stress, the Holy Spirit will bring what you need to the forefront of your mind. I experienced this a number of years ago when I had surgery.
