Writer's Survival Guide 2: The Art of Not Writing
Have you ever opened your work-in-progress and had no idea what to write next? (Yeah, I know, every day, right? Ha!) Well, this happens to me too. Inspired by the fabulous Jessica R. Patch who generously shared her vlogging tips, I decided to help you make the most of your "not" writing session, vloggy style.
Here's how I procrastinate.
If you have your own special style of avoiding writing, please share! I love to hear how you procrastinate!
Enjoy your Monday!
You are too cute! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I LOVED this, Jill! I totally want to drive to Michigan and hang out with you!!
ReplyDeleteCRACKING UP.
ReplyDeleteWho doesn't like to do the lasso? Yes, yes I'll be quoting this for the next 20 years.
Because I, my friend, I love to do the lasso and all other kinds of dance moves and yes, I've used that as a way to stimulate my brain into writing!
You are fabulous! I'm glad you are taking care of your throat. :D
~ Wendy
This was so great! Made me smile and laugh! Pass the chocolate and the lasso please!
ReplyDeleteOh! I love your new tagline too! Great job!
ReplyDeleteLaura: Aw, thanks! I'm surprised my beyond pale skin even showed up. I was afraid we'd have a ghost hunters vlog!
ReplyDeleteKatie: Ha! I totally want you to come to Michigan too. There would be a LOT of laughter, my friend!
Wendy: Of course you love to do the lasso. Of course! :) Thanks for putting up with this dorkwad!
Jessica: I blame you--oops, I mean, I thank you for pushing me to take the leap! Here's your lasso, go to town!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
I love the humorous spiel about not writing! (we all have those days, don't we? ha ha) My computer is conveniently located near the kitchen, so the distractions of chocolate & coffee are overwhelming. When my brain hits a snag, the goodies come out! Thanks for making me laugh! (it helped work out a kink in my thoughts...now back to tweeting, then writing). Have a good day, Jill!
ReplyDeleteJill, this is hysterical and very similar to my own routine. Oh, how that blinking cursor gets on my nerves too...all too often I'm afraid. Maybe I should try the lifesavers. Yup, I think I'll add that one. :) Great vlog. Keep em coming.

ReplyDeleteLOL! You are so funny! Love the Gobstoppers. Grab a handful and have a party!
ReplyDeleteWhen that cursor starts to curse at me, or cause me to consider cursing at it, I hide it. I pull up Twitter, to see what folks are doing. Sometimes I find cool blogs like this to watch, and further delay facing that cursed cursor. Thanks for the fun video. Nita
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing you on vlog!! Very fun post!
ReplyDeleteYou really cracked me up with your blinking cursor imitation!
I always play with the dogs as part of my procrastination plan.
Jill,
ReplyDeleteI came over from the Books & Such blog to check out your first vlog. You are too funny. I can definitely relate to your dilemma. There are so many emails to check, blog posts to write, and things to promote on social media, gee, who has time for writing?
Wishing you the best,
Cheryl

Loved the vlog post and the opportunity to see and hear you, Jill. Well done and lotsa fun. I'm with Loree. Your blinking cursor imitation cracked me up.
ReplyDeleteJan: Close proximity to the kitchen is always a good thing! Although, I do count my up-and-down trips from my upstairs office as exercise. :)
ReplyDeleteLacie: Go get yourself some Lifesavers! Those Orange Creme ones are yum, yum, yummy!
Erica: I can't be the only one who parties with Willy Wonka candies, can I? :)
Nita: Social media is the BEST procrastination tool. We can justify it with "we're building our platform." I'm SO good at it!!
Loree: The dogs need you. If you don't play with them, they'll start having social problems. Don't let the puppies down!
Cheryl: How nice of you! I could waste hours every day keeping busy online! It's so addicting... :)
Keli: Aw, thanks! That blinking cursor takes on a life of its own, sometimes! Ha!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
You look so cute. I wish I could hear what you said. My volume is in the on position, but for some reason, I can't hear it. I'm sure it was funny. Maybe I can try to get it another day.
ReplyDeleteYou have me laughing over here, Jill! Your vlog is fun! Glad to know a fellow writer also prefers candy and video games when she needs a break from writing ;-)
ReplyDeleteI procrastinate by checking email and venturing into the wonderful world of Facebook. If that fails, I blame my lack of writing on the dog. He has so many pressing needs, you know ;-)
LOL, Hilarious!!! I looooove Lindor truffles. Are you sure I can't eat them more than just Fri. afternoon? Pretty please?!
ReplyDeleteNancy: Oh, I'm so sorry! I've had trouble getting my laptop to produce sound too. Wish I could help!
ReplyDeleteBrandi: Yeah, I'm really good at procrastinating, and Facebook is such an easy way to do it! Ha! My dog, Sophie, has many needs too. I must take care of her!
Sarah: Okay, since you actually exercise, you could consider adding one truffle to your day. Just one, though, Sarah!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
I love it! We got Just Dance 3 for Christmas. It's a blast!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Jill! I LOVED this. Look at you! I have to meet you in person now :) We could do Just Dance 3 together. I totally love the Apache song - and have to admit that I have the high score, thank you very much. Yeah, I procrastinate with magazines and chocolate and even...this is terrible, but...I procrastinate with other chores. Ugh!
ReplyDeletePrescription chocolate!!! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI know I've mastered the art of not writing when I choose housecleaning over the scene I'm supposed to be working on. "Oh yes, why don't I wash some dishes and that will help the ideas to flow."
Great VLog, Jill. I hope you're planning on a sequel.
Mary
I've just now had time to watch this, but loved it! I'm glad I'm not the only one with these problems. And total LOL on your use of the word "grody." Is that even how you spell it? Anyway, I could write a long diatribe for you to read, but wouldn't want to give you any more excuses to avoid writing!! :P
ReplyDeleteThere's a reason it's called a "cursor"! Love butter rum lifesavers! Haven't had them in ages. I also play a game of freecell before I start writing....
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fun vlog, Jill!
Julie: Go do the Apache song right now! I like doing the lasso in a circle. It just brings me a lot of joy. :)
ReplyDeleteCindy: High Score!! *high five* Isn't that one fun?? I also totally love "Venus." Oh, yeah!!
Mary: Amen. If I'm picking cleaning over anything, it's a sad day indeed! My sister and I first heard the term "prescription chocolate" from Fran Drescher's "The Nanny," and we loved it!! Isn't that the truth??
Lindsay: I know! Don't you love the word grody? I thought I'd bring it back. It was such a fave from my teen years. Next up? "Barf." :)
Kathy: I must send you Butter Rums!! And, I never thought of the "cursor" as being literal. You're a genius!

Love this, Jill. You're so funny. My favorite way of not writing is by watching movies/tv on Netflix. I figure since I write historical romance, if I'm watching Jane Austen or Downton Abby, I can call it RESEARCH. And research is important. Right? Pass the gobstoppers. :)
ReplyDeleteKaren: Aw, thanks! And, yeah, it IS research!! Hello?? I'm dying to watch Downtown Abbey, but I want to watch it from the first episode. I need to rent the first season!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by!
LOL! I go for the chocolate and cleaning the desk.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chuckles - not to be confused with the candy. :)
