5 Easy Questions with Brenda Minton!

Every Wednesday, I ask a writer the same five easy questions. In an effort to support and promote fellow wordsmiths, I feature authors who write a variety of genres, from sweet inspirational to mainstream thrillers. The writers themselves may be aspiring, published, or a best-selling author--all have made an impact on my life.

Thank you for joining me in welcoming… Brenda Minton!!

I met Brenda at the RWA National Conference in Washington D.C. and was immediately charmed by her red hair, soft voice, and sassy humor. She's been a wonderful friend to me, and I'm thrilled to have her here. Brenda writes Christian romances with loads of cowboys for Steeple Hill Love Inspired.

So let's get to it!

1. Beverage of choice? Haha, Coffee of course. I'm drinking a cup as I type.

2. Any pets? My sister calls my house a kennel. 4 dogs and a cat.

3. Dream vacation? Europe for a month.

4. What are you listening to right now? The pug snoring next to me.

5. What's for dinner? Chicken soup at church.

Thanks so much, Brenda, for sharing with us today. Got to love those Lenten suppers, right? And I'll join you in Europe for all the coffee they can give us! I'm very excited to read your upcoming book with Gail Gaymer Martin--talk about a dynamic duo!

Here's my question for you. What are YOU listening to right now?

Brenda Minton writes from her home in the Missouri Ozarks, usually with at least two dogs on her lap and at least one kid asking questions about dinner. She writes cowboy romances for Love Inspired and doesn't plan on going anywhere anytime soon. Her new series COOPER CREEK will debut next November in a two-in-one with author Gail Gaymer Martin. Stop by Brenda's website and friend her on Facebook.

  1. Nice to meet you, Brenda! Make room in your suitcase for me. I want to go to Europe too!

I'm listening to Jesus Culture, Your Love Never Fails, at the moment. Later, I'll be putting on my Christina Perri Jar of Hearts station on Pandora for a scene I'm writing.

  2. I enjoy reading this segment. And did someone say cowboys? I'm listening to the laser printer rotating the drum letting me know it's time to order a new one.

  3. Good morning!

Jessica P: We should all go to Europe. Like right now. :) And I love your music choices. I'm not sure if I've heard Jesus Culture--I'm going to check them out!

CJ: Yeah, CJ, someone DID say cowboys! Mm, mm! Sorry, your current sounds do not sound pleasant. Hope your ink comes in quickly!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  4. Hi Ladies.
Yes, Cowboys! Harlequin has designated 2011 the Year of the Cowboy. I have news for them, 2012 is going to be the year of the cowboy, too. :) And 2013...and 14...

No music on right now but the other day I tortured my kids by making them watch Blondie's Rapture on Youtube. I just wanted them to understand me a little better. My lack of style, inability to dance. Yes, I'm a child of the 80s

  5. This is where I won't post that I spent 3 weeks in Europe backpacking about 3 years ago :) oops - I posted it. LOVED EUROPE :)

I'm listening to myself swallow coffee. It's a FANTASTIC sound.

  6. Jaime, I'd love to be doing that right now. Or maybe in a month or so when the weather warms up a little more!
My first was born in Germany 20 years ago.

  7. I'm listening to whatever sound track Starbucks is playing. And the good news is that, unlike some mornings, it is not too loud. So I can concentrate on my writing. (Oh, haven't already finished my mocha drink...darn! Wish I had a few sips left. Oh well, tomorrow will be another coffee day.)

    Nice to meet you, Brenda.

  8. Hi Brenda! Nice to meet you.

What kind of dogs do you have? All pugs?

Do you have any problems in a dog/cat household? Or is it peaceful?

I'm listening to the opening score to Green Fried Tomatoes.

  9. I'm listening to the hum of my air purifier: it's allergy season in the southwest!

Later, in my van, I'll be listening to an excellent audio Bible from 2007--The Bible Experience, featuring the voices of major stars like Cuba Gooding, Denzel, and Angela Basset. Even my 8-year-old loves it!

  10. Brenda: I torture my kids too! I've been giving them lessons on the different styles of Van Halen. :) And I HOPE 2012 on up are years of the cowboy. Ah, cha, cha!

Jaime: No fair! Wait, maybe we could plan a girl's repeat of the trip? Good plan, huh?

Patrice: Not too loud music at Starbucks--sounds wonderful to me! They usually have non-abrasive music anyhow. :)

Loree: I'm curious too. We had a cat and puppy, but they were separated all the time. Does anyone have trouble integrating cats/dogs together? I want another kitty!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  11. Brenda, I'm a child of the 80s too. Journey is my favorite band, lol. That's what I would be listening to if the radio were on.

  14. My baby is crying...again. The girls are fighting...again. I'm ignorning it all for a few moments of blog-reading peace. lol... Yes, I'm a horrible mother, I know. Hubby is trying to wrangle them for me, though.

    Nice to "meet" you, Brenda!

  15. Well, right now I'm listening to...Jack's Big Music Show. I can't say that it's my fav, but the great niece seems to love it.

Cats and dogs. In our house it works. Most of the time. When it doesn't work, that's when it is bad news for the cat.
But someone found her and gave her to us when she was 2 weeks old, so she really thinks she's a dog.

As for dogs. :-) We have a chihuahua, the pug (true king of our house) his son the jug (Jack russel/pug cross) and the basset hound that got dumped by some loving person.
I have 3 kids plus a great niece and nephew that live a good part of the time with us.
Happy Chaos. oh, look, cupcake being fed to the chihuahua. Lovely.

  16. Yay Brenda! It's nice to meet you here.

Jill, I love these Wednesday posts.

I'm listening to the Cubs broadcast on tv. :)

  17. Rosslyn: Uggh, allergy season! Crank that baby up! The Bible study sounds like more enjoyable listening!

Brandi: Journey--yes! I'm totally with you!

Ralene: I've had your day and I'm praying for you. Meltdowns are no fun! And you're a wonderful mother. We all need to escape the chaos now and then!

Brenda: A bassett hound? Soooo cute! Whoops about the cupcake meal for your chihuahua. Hey, it happens!

Erica: Aren't you glad baseball season arrived? I don't even watch baseball, but it means spring and summer, so I'll take it!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  18. I've never met Brenda but I've "talked" with her a little before when I won a crit from her. She's really nice and encouraging, plus she writes some great heroes. :-)
    Thanks for the interview, ladies!

  19. I'm listening to Nicole C. Mullen singing, "Redeemer." :)

  20. Thanks, Jessica!
Susan, I love Nicole C Mullen. My daughter wore out my CD.
Jill, thanks again for letting me hang out with you all!

  21. Jessica N: Oh, I agree! Brenda writes GREAT heroes!

Susan JR: What a perfect way to spend a Wednesday!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

(And Brenda, thank you for sharing with us today!)

  22. Jill:
I am listening to the traffic on the street outside the window and to the tinnitis in my ears,(I have a cold at the moment.)
    Nice to meet you Brenda.

  23. Nice to meet you, too! Praying you're feeling better soon. :)

I love to hear from you!
