Happy Valentine's Day!
I love romance, love Valentine's Day and the unabashed joy of love.
How important is love? Elizabeth Bernstein wrote an article for The Wall Street Journal, "How--and Why--to Say "I Love You" to Friends and Family." I loved the article and got a bit misty-eyed at the Piglet reference.
Why is it so difficult to say these words to certain people?
I wish I had the answer, but in the name of Valentine's Day, go ahead and tell those closest to you that you love them. If they seem shocked, you can attribute it to the holiday! If the words lodge in your throat like a huge wad of cheese, at least show them you love them with a kind gesture. A big hug always tells someone you care.
For those of you without a recipient for a loving gesture, why not take the opportunity to do something really nice for yourself? Is there something you've put off because it seems extravagant? Today's the day! Go ahead and indulge in a box of chocolates, a thick book, a trip to the movies, or whatever is on your wish list. Sometimes the person we need to hear "I love you" the most from is from ourselves.
How will you show your love this holiday?
Happy Valentine's Day!
Hopefully tell the people close to me that I love them! So I don't take them for granted. :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful thoughts, Jill. And I hope you know you're on that list of people who mean the world to me.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the day.
Sometimes those small, thoughtful gestures mean the very most ... Happy Valentine's Day :)
ReplyDeleteI bought something cool for my man's new office and I'm going to have a long talk with my mom today.

Valentine's Day is a day I harden my heart a little, being single. But I really like your idea of treating yourself. Gotta love yourself to spread the love, too! Happy Valentine's Day, Jill.
ReplyDeleteHugs coming your way, Jill. Your friendship means a great deal to me. Hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteSaying I love you is easy for me to say, but sometimes I forget to show it. I read 1 Corinthians 13 to my Sunday school class yesterday, so I'm trying to model that today in the workplace, at home, and with friends.
ReplyDeleteLove the huge wad of cheese line, LOL. I'm hoping to get to the hospital to see my sister and maybe sneak in a choc. chip cookie for her. :)
ReplyDeleteI wrote my hubby a love letter. :-)
ReplyDeleteI made a Valentine's card for each of my kids and my hubby. Hubby has to work tonight, but I'm still going to make a special dinner for the kids :) With candlelight.
ReplyDeleteI tell Gwynly I love him all the time. Last night we went to dinner at Olive Garden for an early celebration of the holiday. Today he woke to a mushy card and his favorite Valentine's candy on his placemat. He far outdid me this year, though, when he told me to order the Kindle I'd been wanting. My guy is a keeper!
ReplyDeleteOh, I needed to hear your comments today! You're good at showing your love--I'm impressed and inspired. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by!
I think I'll buy my darling a beer. :)
ReplyDeleteCan you believe I write romance, love romance, but hubs and I don't really do anything on this holiday? I know. We're lame.
ReplyDeleteI'm much more cynical about Valentine's Day than I should be, which probably stems from my tendency to be a non-verbal sort of a love-shower. Or maybe I'm just used to all the years of having no money and/or babysitter and thus no way to celebrate in the traditional sense. lol Of course, it gives rise to some creativity, and my favorite Valentine's Day celebration has to be renting a movie and having a carpet picnic with all our favorite snacks and treats. It's the little things. :)
ReplyDeleteYou've inspired me to go out and share the love! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks for passing on the love today, Jill! Big cyber hugs to you and yours ... from me and mine!
ReplyDeleteHi Jill! Sending you virtual hugs and kisses on this special day:)
ReplyDeleteJill:
ReplyDeleteI mailed a Valentine card to our son. He moved out of state last week. The inside of the card asked 'How do you mail a hug?'
Oh, these are making my heart melt. I understand about not having funds or babysitters, or just being too tired to do anything special. That's when hugs, kisses, and nice cards mean even more!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by!
With the new addition to our family, my husband and are a finding creative new ways to say we care.
ReplyDeleteI gave chocolate and cards to hubby and kids, along with lots of hugs:)!
ReplyDeleteA belated Happy Valentine's Day to you, Jill! My honey took me out for Japanese and gave me the most adorable sock frog ever. Yup, you read that right - you know about sock monkeys, well, this is a sock frog. So cute!! I have a thing for frogs - as long as they're not real. One year for my b-day, Steve got me a lifesize copper frog sitting in the position of the thinker! He graces our deck and is quite the conversation piece! Hope your day was wonderful! God bless!
ReplyDeletei love telling my hubby i love him. i think i am gonna be one of those moms one day that absolutely smothers my children with love and kisses. poor kids, i feel bad for them already! :)
ReplyDeleteI heard chocolate, so I'm in! Even if it's just a regular day...:)
ReplyDeleteDoes eating 15 chocolate strawberries in a row count as telling myself "I love you"?
ReplyDeleteYes, chocolate is a big part of the holiday! (Erin, I would eat 16 and not feel a twinge of guilt!)
ReplyDeleteI shared my love with homemade valentines, by going the extra mile in some areas, and by just being so excited that joy bubbled out from me to others. Now if I could just remember each day can be like this...
ReplyDeleteDH and I aren't usually very demonstrative when it comes to valentines, but he did bring me a big bouquet of yellow tulips... such a welcome hint of spring! And I had a card for him.
ReplyDeleteBut we also had our son and all his family staying with us over the weekend (9 of them) en route to a southern sandy beach vacation, so I provided a double chocolate cake with red icing hearts for dessert Saturday night.
We had lots of love, hugs and laughter, too, when DH and I were given a copy of an ultrasound announcing the pregnancy that will produce our very first GREAT-grandchild. (After that, I added a pink and blue candle to the top of the cake!)
