This is the last post of January. Hard to believe, isn't it? Since we examined healthy habits and what we're doing right all month, I would love to share my writing goals and hear yours.
What do you want to accomplish in 2010?
Right now, I'm finishing up the first draft of book one in a three-book series. I will finish the series this year and I'd love to write a fourth book by December 31. I'm realistic, though, and will be happy just to complete the three. (For those of you gagging, I write category romances which are shorter than single title.)
My other goals are continuations of what I do every year. Submit to editors and agents as I complete each book. I also plan on entering a few contests. I haven't narrowed them down yet, but I am keeping an eye out for potentials. Another annual goal is to study six books on the writing craft. Such a chore, right? (Wink, wink!)
What are your goals this year? I'd love to hear your aspirations!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Good morning! Still, three category books is alot! Wow! I hope to finish the book I'm writing and have it all edited by the year's end.
ReplyDeleteFinish rewriting memoir and hopefully have it ready to query by the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteThose are really good goals, and measureable too! I'd like to finish one category and one full-length. So many ideas, so little time. I should probably add in the craft books too--hadn't thought of that.
ReplyDeleteJill, you're incredible, no matter how you dice it!
ReplyDeleteI've mentioned before that my main focus is growth and improvement, but I'd really love to have completed two novels - the one I've almost got the rough draft done for, and the one I started writing after Christmas.
This year, I must I must I must .. resolve my law school deal.
ReplyDeleteWill I go.. when will I go.. how can I go.. who will go with me.. what will be involved .. when can I do it.. where will I go .. how Lord how.
How.
This year. These questions must be wrestled with. Not necessarily all answered, but wrestled to the ground.
You can do it and I can't wait to witness it!
ReplyDeleteMy goals for 2010:
Finish revisions on #3
Secure an agent
Attend two conferences
Finish rough draft of #4
I think that's enough to keep me busy! ;)
~ Wendy
You've got a great mix of goals going on there, from writing to learning. I'll be starting to query my fiction manuscript soon, so my nearest goal is to receive requests for the manuscript :)
ReplyDeleteGood morning!
ReplyDeleteTerri: Great goal! Can't wait to read it!
Tabitha: Memoir, huh? Sounds intriguing...
Georgiana: Do you write both the single title and category in the same genre? I'm rooting for you!
Janna: Growth and completion--absolutely! I'm getting close to revising and all of these ideas are blasting me. Did I start in the right place? Would this be a better beginning? Etc...!!
Shelby: Sounds as if you have some tough decisions to make. Good luck.
Wendy: That's plenty to keep you busy! Whew!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Joanne: How exciting! I know you'll get plenty of requests. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by!
Your goals sound great. I'd like to finish my wip by March 1st. That means I need to buckle down.
ReplyDeleteI hope to enter some contests too. :-)
I'm going to query my finished WIP, heavy edit my 4th book, and finish writing/edit book #6. Eep!
ReplyDeleteExciting goals! I'm putting together a compilation of 30devotions - to submit by the end of February. As of today :), my Fruit of the Spirit devotional will become a work in progress. My ultimate goal is to have 3 books of the 9 book series completed by 2010! I'm also committed to finishing the writing and counseling courses I'm currently taking. Come to think of it, I'd better sign off and get busy!! Have a blessed weekend, Jill!
ReplyDeleteWow, good for you! That's a great goal.
ReplyDeleteMy goal is to try to write a "bigger" book this year. (larger than 50K)
Those are great goals. I'd love to read more books on the craft, too. I am thinking of The Art of War by James Scott Bell.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to finish two or three manuscripts, polished and edited. MAYBE sent out to agents :) And I'd love to enter at least two contests, one being the Genesis Contest.
Those are great goals, Jill!! And I know you'll do it! You'll have to let us know what writing books you read and whether you would recommend any! Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteP.S. You made my mouth water this morning with your mention of chocolate chip cookies!!
If anyone can accomplish all that you can Jill! I feel your drive and passion with every post!
ReplyDeleteI want to finish current WIP and revisions and the second book this year. I don't plan to query for at least another year.
Jessica: You can do it! Buckle!
ReplyDeleteKristen: Sounds great! Good luck!
Maria: Your devotional book will be phenomenal--go write!
Jennifer: Ooo-la-la! Go after that single title!
Cindy: No maybes about it--send them to agents! I'm going to be on you. You've been warned!
Jody: The cookies were divine! And I will let you know the books I try. Fun!
Tamika: That's very kind of you! Best wishes on your goals!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Those are great goals! I'm looking at writing some non-fiction and concentrating on my newspaper articles. But I hope I can work on a few short fiction pieces as well:)
ReplyDeleteHere's to 2010!
What a cute picture. Those are great goals, Jill!
ReplyDeleteMy goals: Finish revising my 4th book. Get it critiqued and sent to my agent. Then plot and write the rough draft of book 5!
Hi Jill -
ReplyDeleteKeep us posted on your progress. We'll cheer you on toward the goal. :)
I'm doing research for my third manuscript and working on the Snowflake. The actual writing should be underway sometime next week.
Blessings,
Susan
You have some serious goals, Jill. Outstanding! I can't imagine getting four novels written in a year... I'm sure you will reach your goals. I think setting those goals are key to reaching them. :) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteMy goal is to make friends with the writing process, to even out the highs and the lows. I want to write from an inspired place that feels good and joyful. I do not accept the 'tortured writer' cliche.
ReplyDeleteCome and ask us if we reached our goals at some point! :)
Kara: Great plan!
ReplyDeleteKatie: Exciting!! Looking forward to following your progress!
Susan: Oh, I will. And look at you, starting to write your new project next week! Woo-hoo!
Sharon: Smiling! I'll get three done, but like I said, that fourth might not be feasible!
Wifsie: I'd dissolve into a puddle of goo without my writer friends. I'm with you!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
My goals? To keep writing:) Okay, so that's the general one, and very doable. Specific ones, to finish and submit more articles and to start an historical fiction project with a friend.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
Karen
Karen: I LOVE historical fiction! Get at it, so I can read it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by!
My aspiration is to accomplish my book and get it printed.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for ur dreams. :)
Chandrika: Welcome! Wonderful! Let's hope 2010 is your year!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by!
