Not Becoming a Recluse: 2 Minute Resolution

I've been too much of a homebody lately. When driving to the gas station seems too much of a bother, I know I need to get out more. So this month's 2 Minute Resolution is to Not Become a Recluse!

October 2103: 2 Minute Resolution

Not Becoming a Recluse

Do you ever get reclusive tendencies? How do you combat them?

Have a terrific weekend!!

  1. Love your videos. I would be a recluse, but my job keeps me out of the house. On the days I work from home, I go to the local bakery with my laptop. So I'd say croissants are what inspires me to get out of the house on those days. :)

  2. Croissants would be motivation enough for me! Love it!!

  3. Love it!! I can't really be a recluse due to my day job, but I'll admit there are weekends from time to time when I don't want to leave my place. Possibly partially because it feels so great not to wear makeup, do my hair and wear certain items of under-clothing. Hehehee...

  4. I'm in the opposite place, Jill! We've been running so much lately that we're actually planning a Recluse Weekend - family time, movies, games. Not leaving the house, except for church. And I can't wait! lol

    1. I would love that too, Kristi. Alas, the only time I do leave the house is for mom-taxi duties. :( Enjoy!!

  5. I am truly a homebody (there's no place like home), but we've been so busy lately that I wish I was at home more! Tonight I'm forcing myself not to do any work and snuggle in my bed and read my Us weekly! :)
Good luck getting back out there! You could even write at a Starbucks a few times a month to get out!

    1. Yes! Friday nights and UsWeekly go together. Pizza too. :) I plan on writing somewhere else for a few hours, starting next week. I must. :)

  6. So true! Now that I work from home, I can go two or three days without seeing anyone but my husband and maybe a neighbor or two. I go to lunch with my mom twice a week and do errands like the grocery store, but I really need to join a writer's group of some type to at least give me some socialization!

    1. I hear you! It's way too easy to just stay home, isn't it? Good luck!

  7. LOL. I would happily be a recluse if possible. Pretty sure I've worn a pony tail and sweats all week--probably not the best thing:) I suppose I should get up and get out, huh?

  8. My family sounds a lot like yours, Jill. Many are very talented and I think that's part of it. I know I would be satisfied living in a cave and writing, but when I finally get out I do enjoy myself. Luckily my wife has taken on the, 'getting me out of the house' part. Even it's just a short drive or a trip to Walmart to view the crazies.

    1. Cool! It's fun to hear other people have home-body families too. And you're right--it IS fun to get out!

  9. Jill! I, too, am much of a recluse. But, I sincerely enjoy solitude. It's my theme word to describe myself. However, you asked for ideas:How about sharing your love of writing and reading with children at your local elementary school? They are always looking for adults to guide small reading groups. And, there's usually a community group to teach literacy to adults, too! You could tutor at the library for profit some, too!---Angela Devereaux

  10. Dealing with combat stress for many years, I've learned that getting out into the flow of things simply doesn't work for me. A part of me is always a long way away, both in space and time.

As Frodo says in the end of TLOR, "How do you pick up the threads of an old life? There are some wounds that go too deep."

Being out in the world is a reminder of so much I've lost, to which I can no longer relate. It's profoundly depressing.

And it's unfair to others, because I look out of place. My wife says it's something in the eyes. Not a fitting expression for WalMart or Starbucks.

Dogs are good company. They get it.

    1. I'm so sorry, Andrew. Part of life is knowing our limits. Yes, there are times to stretch the limits, but there are also times to honor them. Dogs ARE good company. :)

  11. Hi Jill!
My day job prevents me from being a recluse and then there's my four kids and my extrovert husband. I'm one of those people who count it a gift if I don't have to leave the house for one WHOLE day. Sad isn't it?

    1. No, it's not sad at ALL! Trust me, I'm constantly running my kids to activities. It's probably the reason I could become a recluse--ha, ha!! Hope you get a whole day home soon. :)

  12. Whew! It's so nice to know I'm not alone! I've actually entertained the idea of an AA group (agoraphobic's anonymous) using skype so I wouldn't have to leave home...only kidding... but not so much considering it's 12:30 and I'm still in my PJ's (I mean "lounging clothes". I do need to go to the grocery store, though, so I'd best get going.

Thanks for the smiles! (And hugs for those of us who find it hard to face the world.)

  13. Jill: We have a routine. Hubby and I eat out for our noon meal. I also started participating on our church's visitation team. I have times where I crave being at home for most of a day. I need to get out some times to keep my Fibro from getting me down.

    1. What a great routine! Quality time with your hubby AND a meal out! Yeah, sometimes it's good to fight our natural instincts to stay home. I got out three times last week, and it did me good. :)
