What Are Your Valentine's Day Plans?

Another Valentine's day is almost here. When I was young, I loved Valentine's Day. I adored the little cards and their teeny-tiny envelopes. Someone in my class always gave out cherry-flavored red heart suckers. Sometimes I would talk my mom into letting me take heart-shaped sugar cookies with strawberry frosting.

Yes, Valentine's Day was lovely back in the day.

Now that I'm older, it all too often involves a round of:

- Figuring out how many after-school activities are on the schedule that night.
- Moaning about how expensive restaurants are and remembering the recent mediocre meals we paid top dollar for.
- Wondering what says "romance" to a guy on a twenty dollar budget?
- Flipping over a greeting card and gasping. They're really five bucks now?
- Coming up with alternatives to the whole thing--a nice meal at home, maybe even a romantic movie, all guys like candy, right? And he'll just throw away the card so why bother taking out a second mortgage for one...

Yes. I write romance and am romantically challenged. Romance probably should mean not looking at the price on the back of the card, not caring if the restaurant isn't worth it, going over budget on a cool gift, and just saying no to any extra-curricular activity. But I'd be lying if I said I did all that!

As I write this, I'm brainstorming a fun gift basket for my hubby. I'm planning on making a tasty meal. And--since I'm being really romantic--I'm scoping out what college basketball games are on television that night. I know the way to his heart!

What are your plans this V-Day? Is it stressful for you? Or do you love it?

Have a terrific weekend!

  1. We don't have much planned for Valentine's Day - a trip to the dentist is it. Though I did buy Hubby a Biggby (great coffee franchise by us) gift card:)

  3. This morning it was deciding whether or not to send my son to school today. He wasn't feeling great but today was the day of his class party. He had to stay home :( Poor little guy. Tomorrow my husband and I have reservations at a fondue restaurant. It will be nice to have a break after a week of dealing with a sick kid.

    1. I'm bummed for your little guy. :( It never fails that they get sick and have to miss a really fun time. Ugh!

  4. My husband took the day off and told me to stop asking questions, so I have no idea what's in store other than we're seeing Beautiful Creatures! It did say on the commercial, "Make your Valentine's Day epic!" lol

  5. bebe and I just addressed 12 Valentines for her party at school. *That* was stressful. For 4, she's got great penmanship...only she doesn't think so. Every time she squiggled a letter it was The End Of the World. *sigh*

I think we're going to dinner

  8. Himself hates cards that rhyme so I usually make one that just says Happy Valentine's Day. I will make dinner. Maybe a heart shaped meat loaf. We'll catch up with favorite tv programs. Man, that sounds pathetic. I think I'll go have a good cry. (-;

  10. I don't have any plans for Valentine's Day. Beloved is now living it up in heaven.

I'm grateful for my dear Mom. What a blessing to still have her at this stage of my life. And, of course, I'm thankful that I am deeply loved by my Heavenly Father.

  12. What a cute old fashioned Valentine. Yes, I love the day. It's my favorite day. I have to get used to the idea that it isn't other people's favorite. I have to lower my expectations. My husband did come through with candy and an Andy Williams CD. I got him a Scotch plaid newsboy hat and matching tie for his Hickory Golf tournaments where he wears knickers.

You did a great job for your husband. Hope he liked it.
