Sketching: 2 Minute Resolution Vlog

As many eight-year-olds do, I announced I would be an artist when I grew up. I smile thinking of all the hours I spent trying to sketch the perfect zebra. Let's just say a lack of formal training didn't dampen my enthusiasm!

As an adult I've spent time here and there sketching and making crafts, but I find myself missing the routine of regular art time. It became the perfect resolution for February. A chance find at the library, The Sketchbook Challenge by Sue Bleiweiss, gave me some great ideas. In fact, my youngest eagerly agreed to join me. Every weeknight we spend a minimum of fifteen minutes adding to our sketchbooks.

It's fun!

Here are some tips on keeping a sketch journal:

Do you love to draw? Is there a hobby calling you to devote regular time to it? What can you do to make that happen?

Have a lovely weekend!!

  1. I want to see your sketch!:) I cannot even draw a stick figure--no lie. My mom is an amazing artist (she typically uses watercolors and I have several of her paintings) and two of my siblings inherited this. Me, not so much, and I'm good with that. I can't say I have a hobby right now. Does eating chocolate count?

    1. Susan, my talent runs as far as my 8-year-old self! I never really progressed! But that isn't the point. The point is it's fun! And yes, chocolate does count as a hobby. :)

    1. Ooo, I love crocheting! I've been working on a blanket for FOUR years--ridiculous!! But, again, it's one of those things I'll add a few rows to and let sit for 8 months. UGh!

  3. Jill, I'm an avid knitter. The rhythm of the needles and the texture of the yarn soothe my soul. I keep something simple beside my computer and when my thoughts scatter, I can pick up the wool and bring back order to my universe. Thanks for sharing your hobby and giving us a place to share ours!

    1. That is awesome, Edie! My grandma taught me to knit, but I'm more natural with crochet. I know what you mean about knitting bringing back order to your universe. Maybe it's the repetition or something, but I feel the same way about crochet!

  4. I don't love to draw, but I used to looove to paint. Now my easel, canvases and paints are waisting away in my spare bedroom closet. I'd love to get back to that someday. I miss it!

  6. Oh, Jill, I can't draw, but I can whip up some pretty mean dishes in the kitchen, and I do enjoy scrapbooking (though I've not been as active with that lately.) I always admire anyone who has the eye and talent for sketching and painting. Way to go!

A side note: Our daughter has always loved art. Painting, pottery, creating, all of it. She used to make volcanoes out of mashed potatoes on her plate. :)
