Spooky Season

Every year I go nuts over football, red and yellow leaves, fuzzy sweaters, cozy blankets, comfort foods like nachos or chili, apple orchards, and everything that comes with autumn!

I track seasons by climate. My unofficial farewell to fall happens on Halloween. Why? We usually see snowflakes early in November--plus, my Christmas spirit arrives on November first. :)

But before we start whispering about winter, we get to have fun with Halloween--and I adore Halloween!

First of all, there's candy involved, and I love candy.

Secondly, I get a kick out of the neighborhood kids' costumes when they trick-or-treat. So cute!

The one thing I didn't think I'd like about Halloween, but do?

Spooky shows and movies!

I get too frightened to watch horror movies on a regular basis, but mildly scary ones work for me.

Sleepy Hollow is a goodie! I also love the less scary Monsters, Inc! And who doesn't enjoy It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown? We even tuned in to The Lost Boys the other night.

I started watching American Horror Story: Asylum this season, but it's freaking me out. Great writing and acting, but this television show is surprisingly rated-R even for cable.

My absolute favorite spooky show right now? The Walking Dead. I love this show!!

  1. Sleepy Hollow!!! That's a good one. We have it, but I have a feeling it's on video, which we can't watch anymore.

We've already had our first dump of snow this week. It now feels like Christmas here.

    1. Not snow already!! I can't handle snow before November. :) And it's funny about movies--we donated all our VHS two moves ago. We don't have a VCR anymore!

  2. I am not into scary movies or shows. Monsters Inc. is about as Halloween-themed as I get :) I'm such a wimp!

  3. I like suspense and thrillers but NOT horror! lol But I don't count vampire type movies as horror, necessarily.
I love this time of year too...even though I'm all ready humming Christmas songs. lol Have a great weekend!

  4. Uh, nope. I am with you on Football - GO BLUE!!! - and I'm with you on Fall, and I'm definitely with you Christmas showing up November 1st (it's the official release date in our household of Christmas music streaming through Pandora and Christmas movie watching BEGINS!)...but not on the whole loving Halloween or scary movies. I'm a big scaredy cat, I am, and a big party pooper when it comes to Halloween. I own it. I do.

    Have a great weekend!

  5. I love the old black and white horror movies: Dracula with Bela Lugosi, Frankenstein with Boris Karloff as The Creature, The Mummy with Boris Karloff, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with Spencer Tracy, The Invisible Man with Claude Rains, and The Wolfman with Lon Chaney, Jr. (Though this is more of a psychological thriller)There. That should get you through the night (-;

  6. TCM has been showing some pretty creepy old black and white movies. Watched the Unknown with Lon Chaney Sr.- really creepy story for that time (1927) He was the scare master.

  7. Scary? Yes. Demon-possessed and freaky wall crawler? No. :) Again, we're a little on the same page today. We're half a page! Have a great weekend!

  8. I dreamed about scary movies last night. I was in one. Could have been b/c my eye was crusted shut. :D

Not a huge fan. Like the thought provoking ones. "I see dead people."

  9. Yeah, I'm not so much a scary movie kind of person. When my friends and I would watch them in high school, I'd have to beg one of them to walk down the hallway to the bathroom with me. Me no likey freaky movies. Although...I will watch Sixth Sense and Signs. So maybe it just depends, LOL.

And hello, October and November are considered fall here in Phoenix! :) It's not really "winter" weather until the first part of December.

  10. Okay, so, I have heard soooo much about The Walking Dead lately. I'm not hugely into scary shows or movies, but enough people are talking about it that I'm sorta wanting to try it out just so I'm not out of the loop. Hahaha...

I definitely enjoy a good scary moment in a movie, though, even if I'm not the first one to pick up a horror movie. In Lord of the Rings, there's this moment where Bilbo freaks out and that moment in the movie freaked me out more than any other moment in any other movie.

    1. The creepy spider thing in LOTR still haunts me. Those movies are awesome!!

I like the Walking Dead because it's about survival--men act like men, women are tough, and the zombies are absolutely disgusting. It's a great show. :)

  11. I like spooky shows and movies. But they have to be more suspenseful and creepy rather than gory and...well, disgusting. Sleepy Hollow is a good one. I need to watch that again!

    1. Yeah, I don't like flat out gore movies. I also don't like movies that are too realistic in terms of fears. No thanks!!

  12. I LOVE spooky shows!!!! Halloween, to me, is more about the slashers than the psychological thrillers (although, I love them too!). AMC is hosting their annual Fear Fest right now and airing marathons of all the good horror movies - Friday the 13th, Halloween, etc. My TV has been stuck on that channel!

  13. I watch Criminal Minds every week, or as my family calls it, "Creepy Show."

Not a big fan of horror movies in general, though I loved "What Lies Beneath" with Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer.

    1. Ha, ha! "Creepy Show!" My family likes Monsters Inside Me--that's my idea of Creepy Show!

  14. No scary shows for me. I'll watch cop shows, mysteries, and the occasional adventure with Gwynly, but even those can be a bit intense for me at times. Give me a romance any day.

  15. Horror/slasher movies give me the creeps--TMI for me. But I do like old flicks like the early Vincent Price flicks, some of Alfred Hitchcock's, and Rod Serling's Twilight Zone. And did you ever see The Bad Seed (the one from the 50's or 60's) with Patty McCormick. You should really check that one out. More suspenseful than graphic, but it has an interesting come-uppance at the end. (((Shudder)))

  16. I don't care for spooky things as a rule. My one exception is probably The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow because it is so literary and I know the end and it isn't so bad. I'm always glad when we see Nov. first along with the smashed and wilted pumpkins at the curb. I'm sure I'm weird, but there is something satisfying about that to me.
