5 Easy Questions with Regina Jennings!

Every Wednesday, I ask a writer the same five easy questions. In an effort to support and promote fellow wordsmiths, I feature authors who write a variety of genres, from sweet inspirational to mainstream thrillers. The writers themselves may be aspiring, published, or best-selling--all have made an impact on my life.

Thank you for joining me in welcoming…Regina Jennings!!

Regina and I met through our social networks, and we’re Twitter pals, yay! We share the same agent, and I was so excited to see Regina’s great news about her debut book, Sixty Acres and a Bride—out now!!—through Bethany House. If you like inspirational historical romance, you’re going to love Regina’s books!

Let’s get to it!

1. Beverage of choice?

Water with lemon. Boring, but oh, so cheap.
2. Any pets?

We have one beautiful Great Dane named Esther. At two years old she’s bigger than I am and is only now growing out of the chewing puppy stage.

We also have a friendly barn cat that the kids named Taylor who appears at our kitchen window every morning and meows for the left-over cereal milk.
3. Dream vacation?

I’d like to visit the notable libraries of Great Britain. If anyone can score me a pass through the archives, please let me know.
4. What are you listening to right now?

On my ipod for the gym I have Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire, Fairy Tale by Alexander Rybak, and Rolling in the Deep by Adele. When I’m writing I like to turn on the Pandora Bluegrass station

5. What's for dinner?

Tonight Pa Jennings cooked. He made chicken-fried deer steaks and gravy. I warmed up a bag of those sweet Hawaiian dinner rolls and called it good.
***
Ooo, Regina, I wish Pa Jennings would head north and cook dinner here. Yum! Although I am wincing a little at your healthy beverage choice. Tell me you have a weak spot, like a secret need for coffee or Mountain Dew? No? That’s okay, you have an adorable dog. My little wiener dog would bark non-stop at Esther, who would not deserve to be yapped at.
Notable libraries of Great Britain? Can I tag along? It sounds perfect! You have a few artists on your iPod I haven’t heard of. I’m off to remedy that! Thanks so much for being my guest today, Regina!

Sixty Acres and a Bride:
She's Finally Found a Place to Call Home... How Far Will She Go to Save It?

With nothing to their names, young widow Rosa Garner and her mother-in-law return to their Texas family ranch. Only now the county is demanding back taxes and the women have just three months to pay.

Though facing eviction, Rosa falls in love with the countryside and the wonderful extended family who want only her best. They welcome her vivacious spirit and try to help her navigate puzzling American customs. She can't help but stand out, though, and her beauty captures attention. Where some offer help with dangerous strings attached, only one man seems honorable. But when Weston Garner, still grieving his own lost love, is unprepared to give his heart, Rosa must decide to what lengths she will go to save her future.

What are you looking forward to now that Valentine’s Day is over?

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  4. I need that deer recipe! I have a freezer full and have no idea how to cook any of it. LOL

I'm looking forward to Spring Break so I can sleep later. Is it bad I didn't say because the kids are home and we can spend lots of time together?

    Great answers, Regina!

  5. Do you have the "You kill it. You cook it." rule at your house too?

  6. Add some sugar and ice to that lemon water and it would be the perfect beverage for the sun room. Temps today going up to the mid50s which means I might be able to have lunch in the sun room today.

  7. Ooh, I've been to a couple libraries in England! I felt so C.S. Lewis-ish! :)

Loved this interview. I also love the name of your dog, Regina!

What I'm looking forward to now that Valentine's Day is over are Cadbury mini-eggs!

  8. Thanks for having me, Jill. I'm looking forward to our Mexico mission trip in May (how's that for alliteration?). We are booking the tickets this week.

I'll have to get back to you on the deer steak recipe, Jessica. I have no idea how he does it but it is delicious.

Wendy, Katie and CJ - the lemon does help, and some sugar would make it perfect!

Julie - You are a wise woman. Wouldn't it be wonderful if homeless shelters accepted game? I think they are prevented because of health dept. rules, but I wish the guys didn't bring home everything they shot.

I'm jealous, Melissa. I've been to the British Museum in London and they had quite a collection of manuscripts, but we were with a tour group and couldn't as long as I'd like.

  9. I'd love to tour the libraries of England! And the Ashmolean in Oxford.

I love the cover of your debut novel. Congratulations!

  10. I drink water with lemon, too, but I've never tried deer steaks. I hear they're tasty, though.

Congratulations on the release of your debut novel, Regina, and the wonderful reception it's receiving.

And bless your heart, Jill, that I don't have to struggle with those hard-to-read captcha words to leave a comment. Either my eyes have gotten worse lately, or Blogger is out to mess with my head. =)

  11. I don't like lemon water, but have recently tried cucumber water. Ah-mazing!

I have a 7-month-old golden retriever puppy in the chewing stage. And jumping stage. And biting stage. Sigh. I can't wait until she's better behaved. But puppy obedience school starts March 7! Can't wait!

  12. Hi, Regina, nice to meet you! Congratulations on your book release. Beautiful cover! The turquoise really pops.

I used to live in Oklahoma when my husband and I were stationed at Ft. Sill in Lawton.

One can only imagine what is in those libraries in England. I so want to go there :-)

    Great interview, Jill!

  13. Ha, ha! Loving these comments! "You kill it; you cook it," great slogan!

Sun rooms, sleeping in, more lemons--I get this, ladies. And I'm in!

Keli, the captchas are more than I can take. I squint and can't figure them out! Ugh!!

Larissa, our mini-wiener dog took forever to potty train. And she was a chewer. We sprayed "Bitter Yuck" on her hot spot chewing areas. It helped. Now if we could get past her barking at the mailman and big dogs....

Melissa, Cadbury Mini-Eggs are my FAVE! I keep the bags to smell. Not lying!

Thank you all so much for stopping by!

  14. Hi Jill and Regina - great guest .. I drink loads of water and am appreciative when I get round to adding a slice of lemon.

Perhaps you should read my recent post and then the next one coming probably on Friday - re Libraries!

I did one on the Rhodes Library in Oxford - search "Emily Hobhouse" and I must do another on the British Museum and the Ashmolean - both linked ...

The British Library is pretty amazing too - that deserves one on its own ..

I'm glad I don't kill it and then have to cook it ...

Cheers Jill - I enjoyed your procrastination video! Good luck with your books and I hope I'll get them one day .. Hilary

  15. Erica, I had to look up the Ashmolean. Amazing! Thanks for introducing me to a new destination.

Keli, I have trouble, too. They are like those 3-D pictures you are supposed to see if you squint. I never got those.

Lindsay - How do you do cucumber water? Add a slice? I'm intrigued.

Brandi - We go to Lawton a few times a year for basketball games. It's a busy city for this part of the world.

Thanks for coming by and saying hello!

  16. Hi Regina! Hi Jill!

    Fun interview.

I've been hearing just great reviews on your book, Regina, and have put it on my TBR list.

    Congratulations!

  17. Regina, just add several slices of cucumber to the water. It's really tasty. :) Best with ice water, of course.

  18. Hey girls! So fun to see Regina here. :)

I love her eclectic tastes in music. I thought I was the only one who kept my Pandora channel confused. :)

  20. I love your 5 easy questions interviews, Jill. And I enjoyed 'meeting' Regina Jennings, and becoming familiar with some of her work. Sixty Acres and a Bride sounds like a great read. :)

What am I looking forward to? My yearly sister-trip! My sister lives in upstate New York, (I'm in Georgia) so we make the most of our time together. A fabulous cabin beside a gorgeous river in the North Georgia mountains, a day of antique shopping in Blue Ridge, and the rest of the time writing a book we are co-authoring together. I can't wait! Only three weeks away.

  21. Loving all these comments!!

I vote for Hilary to be our English library tour guide--right?? :)

If not, maybe we can invite ourselves to C.E.'s sister trip. Now THAT sounds fun!!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  22. Chicken fried steak is a fav of mine too. Your book is in my TBR pile and I can't wait to get to it. :O)

  23. Loree - Thanks. This is my first experience with reviews and so far they've been gentle on me.

Lindsay - I'm going to try it. Will that count as a vegetable or would I actually have to eat the cucumbers? :)

Good to see you, Sarah! The music has to be driving if it's going to work on a treadmill. I find lots of excuses to stop.

Stacy - I need to write something British so I can deduct a trip to England.

C.E. - Sounds great. My sisters and I love getting together, too. Best times.
