Publications I'm Enjoying

One of my favorite magazines is Everyday with Rachael Ray. I've subscribed to various cooking magazines over the years, but this one does such a great job keeping me engaged. One of the new features, "This Month's Menu," is a two-page spread of thumbnail snapshots for every recipe in the issue. Seeing a picture of the recipe greatly increases my desire to try it.

I recently saw another example of this type of feature on Wall Street Journal's online magazine. The interactive web page, The Off-Duty 50, has snapshots and links of 50 fall trends. Again, I found it very entertaining and time-worthy.

Katie Brown puts out visually delicious books on entertaining and cooking. I just borrowed Katie Brown Celebrates from the library. With full page pictures of decorations and recipes, the book kept me entertained for over an hour.

These are just a few examples of publications, online and in-print, that have succeeded not only in capturing my interest but in keeping it for future issues.

What publications or websites are keeping your interest lately?

  1. I have to say Better Homes and Gardens always does it for me. We are renovating our first house so I guess I'm always looking for inspiration.

  2. We got an iPad to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary. There's an app for it called Flipbook which translates Twitter, Facebook, blogs and other sites of your choosing into a magazine format. And the pages "flip" like a magazine. I can visually see the article (esp. the shortened Twitter links) and decide if I want to read the entire article or not.

Better Homes and Gardens. I found inspiration for my guest room in one of their issues.

  5. I second the others' choice of BH&G. It's a nice magazine to linger with.

  6. Good morning!

Well, I'm on the same page as most of you--I LOVE Better Homes & Gardens. I always re-up my subscription. I usually save the current issue for the weekend when I'll have more time to savor it. They do such an outstanding job with their content and pictures. It's delightful!

CJ: That iPad app sounds awesome!! It's exactly what I would want if I had a tablet. You and I think alike!

Wendy: I don't know about you, but I always feel calm and relaxed when I read an issue of Real Simple. It's very mellow!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  7. Writer's Digest and Readers Digest, and the Minnesota Historical Society Magazine.

Though yesterday at the hair salon, I read People and US and OK! something I NEVER do anywhere else...is it sad that I have no idea who most of the people they were talking about are?

  8. Real Simple is a fave of mine, too. I swore I'd never subscribe to Martha Stewart Living and I still have *no idea* why we're receiving it - in my husband's name, no less...but I like it. I read every issue. Crazy.

  9. I really don't read any magazines. They never seem to hold my interest and all I seem to do is breeze through them. OH well, :O)

  11. I love RR! I have several of her 30 minute meal cookbooks. I pick up he magazine when I see it on the shelf at the store.

Sorry for the typo...my r button isn't working like it should.

  12. I used to love Country Home and Country Living. Now, my decor is more British Colonial so I don't use those ideas much now.

I do love People Style Watch. It's silly, but I have lots of fun with it.

By the way, I love reading through recipes and craft projects and then not doing them. It satisfies me just to pretend.

  13. Do I sound very 1-dimensional if I saw Writer's Digest? Because that's the only magazine I read. Oh - but there's a little kid one for Brogan we get in the mail that is really cute. That holds my interest!
