My Guilty Pleasure: The Target Ad

One of my favorite activities is to pick up the Sunday paper and read all of the ads. The Target flyer tops my list.

First of all, it's instantly recognizable with its red and white bullseye. The front page, never cluttered, features half a dozen items all with large, bold prices. The next pages usually sell items similar to the front page. The middle shows household items and electronics. The back displays grocery, beauty and baby items. I like that it's predictable. I like knowing what to expect.

But beyond the nice, bright colors and fun sale items, the Target ad satisfies the little girl in me who grew up on thick J.C.Penney and Sears catalogs. It's fun to dream even when I don't plan on buying anything.

Do you have a catalog or flyer you look forward to? What about it makes you happy?

Have a fantastic weekend!

  3. Good morning!

Laura: They've made a lifetime shopper out of me!

CJ: Ooo, I know I would like that one too. I'm a sucker for art supplies!

Kerry: Okay, I'm intrigued--I'm going to have to do a little research on your fave catalog. Sounds too good to pass up!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  6. I like to look at the Williams Sonoma catalog to see all the kitcheny things I would like to buy, don't have room for, and would probably use only once or twice :)

  7. The LifeWay or Parables flyer. The Dover books catalog...anything that has books in it I guess.

  8. The J Jill catalog, for me. Also Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma, both of which I thankfully only see when I'm visiting my mother, or else I'd be in big trouble!

  9. J Crew. Love their clothes and how the stylists put together great looks that I would never think of.

  10. I don't get too excited by flyers or catalogues any more, but I sure did when I had kids at home. That's the best way to get the good deals.

I think the Target ads on television are the most clever out there. I love the way they morph from one thing to the next. You picked a good one.

  12. Khol's is my fav ad. Unfortunately, they don't have one out here. So Target will have to do. :)

  13. Em: Just the name, Wisteria, sounds magical! I might have to borrow one of your catalogs soon. :)

Wendy: Oh, yes! Dare to dream about coastal living--I will, thank you!

BookGirl: Um, you've found my weakness, and it IS Williams-Sonoma. I could buy everything in that store! I just want to stand in there sometimes. It feels good, you know? :)

Erica: Don't get me too near a book-order catalog. It's dangerous!

ELouise: Yep. To all three. They just look so inviting!

Patrice: *sigh* I love J. Crew catalogs. The colors, the quality--I want to shop right now.

Nancy: Oh yeah! We moms have to find the deals, right?

Stacy: Is Ulta the cosmetics? Because then, yes, I love that one too!

Ralene: Kohl's ads are practically magazines--and I love them! Sorry you don't have one around you. That's like living without McDonalds!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  14. Thanks Jill! You just took me way back to a forgotten happy place! The JCPenney catalogs at my grandma's house when I was a kid... sigh. I loved them so!

  15. As a little girl, we used to always receive the Montgomery Ward Christmas catalog, and I remember perusing it from stem to stern with my black ink pen at the ready, Jill. Often, I'd circle things I longed for Santa to bring--a juke box that played real records, a favorite doll, or maybe a new party dress. Sadly, the MW catalogs are now things of the past, but I still enjoy browsing the ads from the Sunday papers. Alas, I don't have time anymore to whip out my marking pen--unless it's to compare where I can get the best deals and save the most money. :)

  16. I've become a real fan of Target since my college-aged daughter is working as a cashier at her local Target store. They do have catchy ads.

I don't read many ads these days, but when I see one from Apple in my inbox, I have to open it to see what innovative new product they've come up with.

  17. Ayda: Same here! My grandma always had JCPenney and Sears. I would drool over them for hours!

Cynthia: Oh, I know! There was something so magical about thick catalogs. I loved them!

Keli: Too funny! I hope my daughter works at one at some point--discount! :) And I'm with you on Apple. I want one of everything!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  18. I'm a Target fan. I actually went there today and they had EVERYTHING I needed. Shredded Italian cheese, IAM's dog kibble, sugar, tangerine hand soap, and a Starbucks. Love it!

  20. Target for me too! They have the best circular in the paper every Sunday. Old Navy....when they have one.
