Favorite Mugs

I'm a creature of habit. I wake up at the same time each weekday, and the first hour I'm awake, I robot my way through a prescription of tasks. Coffee is always the highlight. As is the healthy serving of flavored cream I dump into my cup. Taking my first sip of the day never fails to thrill me. Not any old mug will do. I choose my mug with care according to my mood.

This mug says it all, and it makes me happy. I smile because it gets me.

I choose this mug when I feel down. My girlfriend Chrissy gave it to me way back when I was eighteen and having some rough times. Whenever I drink out of this Prescious Moments gem, it's as if I'm getting a hug.

My parents got me this mug a long time ago when they had to travel somewhere. It used to have the most adorable lid, but hey, I move a lot, and it's gone! This is also my mom's favorite when she comes to see me. I tend to drink out of it when I feel on top of the world, like I can slay any dragon, you know?

Another gift from my parents. I choose this when I feel kittenish. I LOVE cats!

My darling niece Ashley gave this to me for Christmas a few years ago. It's quickly become my most-used mug. Oversized with pink polka-dots--what's not to love? I like to drink tea out of it in the afternoon.

When I want to have a proper cup of tea, I use the all white cup and saucer. Elegant--plus there's a spot to cradle a cookie or two. Mmm...

I always use this mug for my "writing" coffee. My husband gave it to me. I love the color, the script, the fact my husband gave it to me, and that it holds about two cups of coffee. This one might be singlehandedly responsible for getting my books finished.

Do you make a production out of a morning ritual? Is it coffee or tea? Do you pick out a special mug?

Thanks for spending a few minutes of your Wednesday with me!

  1. The curtain does not rise without a steaming cup of coffee! I wouldn't even attempt it.

Hubby was on target with the extra tall cup- now that's my kind of morning!

  3. I'm a creature of habit, using the same mug all the time, except for my Christmas mug collection, and a few seasonal ones during the year. I could definitely use one like your Writing mug though, very appropriate!

  4. Oh my...that was too much fun!!!
The one that would make me smile every time is the cookie one.

I drink from a pale yellow mug every morning. I used to use Tigger and I suppose I've matured.

I love this blog idea. You are brilliant.

  5. What a fun post!!! I collect mugs too, but mine are of different pottery. I especially love my pottery tea pot that my mom bought me one year for my birthday. It's a hand crafted blue tea pot made in rural West Virgina. That's the kind of pottery I collect! And I have my favorite mug too--the one that holds about two cups of coffee!

  6. Such a fun post! I liked seeing your cups. (Don't repeat that. It just sounds wrong.)

I like plastic cups. But I do enjoy a good ceramic mug, too. I recently bought a red and white swirly one that had become my favorite, and then a week and a half into ownership, I dropped a bowl on top of it. It cracked in half. From the tippy top of one side, down through the center around the bottom and up the back side. I was sore sad. :(

I go back and forth between iceds mochas (even though it's cold outside, I like my cold stuff inside) and chai tea. Can't get enough.

  7. Coffee just tastes better in certain mugs! I love your collection. Mine aren't nearly as fun, but I do have one that's a favorite. Coffee is DEFINITELY the highlight of the morning around here, especially since my hub doesn't drink any and I get the whole pot ;-)

  8. Hey, Jill!

I don't drink coffee or tea (unless it's chai and I'm in India), but I do love Coca-Cola--just not in the mornings. I love drinking it out of an actual glass, with ice. It tastes a lot better like that!

  10. oooh, cute mugs! I, especially, love the blue dragon one. Nice. Coffee yeay! Can't live without it. Okay if I had to... could I? Absolutely not! Coffee is home... mmm. I'm off to slay some dragons. :)

  11. Ha! I do have favorite mugs I like to drink my coffee out of. But my kiddo just bought me one with a snowman on it, so that's been my go-to cup. :)

  12. I don't drink coffee or tea. I can't handle the caffeine. :( My morning ritual involves things like watching the weather, then making breakfast, then a hot bath and I am off!

  13. Great post, Jill.

I'm like you but I only have 2 favorite cups to choose from a large cappuccino style with butterflies all over it that was a gift from my daughter and the BGSU/College of business cup they gave my son when he was admitted.

  14. I love the first one! I might use that one every day!

Morning ritual...usually awake at the same time, but not a coffee drinker. But I do like tea.

  15. Not just coffee, espresso. And I love the last mug in the picture. The rest of my morning routine involves repeating "Hurry up" to my kids, constantly.

  16. I like the polka dotted one. I rarely drink coffee and only tea sometimes so I don't have many mugs. My hubby, on the other hand, uses enough for both of us.

However, the New Year's resolution trying to wiggle itself into my mind is to get on a better schedule, which involves being more consistent in the morning. God time, me time, exercise time and probably tea time.

  17. I can not get going without coffee. I don't have a favorite mug, though. Maybe I'll get one for Christmas.

  18. Wow Jill! I drink out of the same mug every day. How cool to have your mugs associated with your memories.

  19. I usually write for an hour or so and then have a large cup of strong black tea w/milk and honey in the same large mug everyday. I love my tea and look forward to it. When I'm drinking it, I'm also taking a break from my writing and doing things like reading blogs. Yes, right now I am drinking my tea.

  20. So many cute mugs Jill! Makes me want to go out and buy some for myself. I just have those plain blue real cheap ones that come in a set of four. LOL

You're right, the first sip is the BEST!

  21. What a cute post! Love ALL the mug pictures. I too, have a favorite mug, given to me by a dear friend. It reads: "Friends warm you with their presence, trust you with their secrets, and keep you in their hearts. My beverage of choice is General Foods, Suisse Mocha Cafe. A 'must' to start the day off right!

  22. LOVE, love this blog!

I have these Poland pottery mugs, six of them, each blue and white but with wonderfully different patterns.

Now hubby must have these really dull brown colorado mug. If it's dirty, he pulls from the dishwater and sloshes in coffee. Says my coffee will kill all living bacteria!!!

  23. You guys are so awesome! Have I mentioned that?? Today was really special because my parents came last night and we shopped all day. Yes, Mom had the dragon mug (don't I know her? :) and Dad had a monkey mug not pictured. I went straight for polka-dots!

The only thing I'd love more than reading about your mugs/glasses is to actually see them too!

Thank you so much for stopping by!

  24. Love the mugs! My favorite is this ginormous one that looks more like a cereal bowl than it does a mug. It's like four cups of hot chocolate, but doesn't make you feel bad because "technically" you just had one cup. :)

  27. I'm a muggy kind of girl too although my good ones have long since been broken by small children. *sigh*

  28. The first one is my favorite. :)

I have an oversized mug with hearts and a scripture verse. Another has a small ceramic spoon that fits into the handle, and says, "The Joy of the Lord is my Strength." I also have a black and white mug with all sorts of designs - very bold.

    Merry Christmas,
    Susan :)

P.S. I'm adding you to my blogroll.

  30. I am a Starbucks girl, through and through. (Though a pair of ceramic mugs with the famous green logo given to me by my in-laws two years ago will never see the light of day! too much of a good thing.) I love to get out of the house, since I work from home, at the start of the day, get my fave drink, read the paper and prepare to write. Starbucks will definitely be in my Acknowledgments when my book gets published. I have written and re-written tons of pages in their cafes in many spots of the country. Patrice
